TAKE IT HOME

Hailing from Victoria, BC, Take It Home are a road-smart foursome with a sound that springs from some of the purest sources in musical history. They're a folky mash of rock & jazz, combining the wooden warmth of The Band with the joyous funk of Stevie Wonder, and they wouldn't sound out of place blaring from the riverbank of a southern baptism. But theirs is not some over-wrought form of bad-idea fusion. The music recalls the lonely moan of Tom Waits and the winsome wail of Rheostatics - it pays homage to The Funk Brothers, too, and Freddy King and Joseph Zawinul - but these musicians make those allusions with clarity & originality, with a focus on sweet playing and tight arrangements. This band's work is centered on strong songs, on stories of the road and the sky, of gut-wrenching loneliness and binding camaraderie.

Take It Home's tunes are showcases for road-hardened chops and crafty inventiveness. Dan Mock can growl with the best of rock's pantheon - he recalls the poignant days of Levon Helm - and his interplay with Chris Van Sickle's backing vocals and deft keys provide some of the combo's most interesting moments. The rhythm section is beyond solid: Ryland Haggis' bass is wonderfully melodic; Brent Norman's kit is the glue; and their abilities are no wonder. They have traversed Canada extensively with Lift & Stephen Franke, headlining at festivals all across the country and opening for bands like Merl Saunders, The Zen Tricksters, Little Feat, Grand Master Flash, Joshua Redman, and more.

Now, outfitted with their first full length LP - Take It Home is taking it on the road, traversing cold roads to warm receptions, for the joy of the journey, of the jamming, of songs so deep and true.

Discover Entertainment Presents...

STEPHEN FRANKE & NOISES FROM THE TOOLSHED

Around the time that jazz developed into a global experience, the jazz underground started to provide an arena for harmonious celebration. Participants experience the joy of witnessing a sound which externalises the chaos of the human experience; where the years of secret societies and music counter cultures have met and rejoiced; where today thousands of people are gathering to experience a beat; where tomorrow’s music is given a stage and escapes through the cracks in the sidewalk into the minds of the young at heart. This is where Stephen starts making some noise.

But what’s he building in there?????

The music at a Stephen Franke concert offers a glimpse of the foundation and the skyline: A place where jazz accepts the varieties of gospel, mariachi, blues/hip-hop and bop; where singing and shouting are welcome.

Stephen Franke has left audiences amazed and inspired throughout his years touring with Gnu and the Ragtime Millionaires. In every corner of the Canadian heartland, Stephen Franke reaches out to audiences with his mastery of the guitar, his expressive convictions and his illustrative charm.

From the dance hall to the concert hall, these four technicians have been turning heads by setting a new standard for song-writing and instrumental fusion. If listening is your pleasure, Noises from the Toolshed can deliver the shiver. This groove theory is coming to deliver…move your mind to the sound, shake ‘em on down, or stamp your feet on the ground…It really doesn’t matter.

Hipstar Productions Presents...

VIBERIDERS

The VibeRiders are an amalgamation of psychedelic sounds, current electronic beats, and hip underground jazz performed live in sweaty dancehalls across the country.

Originally forming in 2001, the VibeRiders have gone through several roster changes including players from across North America. Known for their impulsiveness at live performances the crowd never knows what to expect or who they may see on stage...

Guests in the past have included various members of the Moses Mayes collective as well as several members of live drum n’ bass group Blue Quarter. The VibeRiders have acquired horn players, percussionists, DJ’s, guest vocalists and even the odd didjeridoo.

At the present time, the core of the VibeRiders sound is composed by four main members...

Chris Cameron, guitarist for the VibeRiders has spent many years in the British Columbia mountain jam band scene. As an avid traveler and artist, Chris brings experience and a vision to the band. After missin’ a break in Las Vegas, NV, Chris joined forces with long time friend and bassist, Noel Darkfinger Linsey.

Noel, a groove oriented bass player from Winnipeg, MB, has been the perfect fit to fuel the booty machine of the VibeRiders. With skills acquired from numerous years as a psychedelic rock sessionist, Noel’s sound is always laidback-jive cat. The Darkfinger of the biz they say.

Mark Burns, pianoman, deep-synth diver is the current keyboard player with the VibeRiders. Truly at one with his instrument, Mark can take an audience as deep as they are willing to go with his catchy melodies and ambient soundscapes.

Alex Soandso, the most shaded member of the VibeRiders, comes from a place we are not familiar with, or better yet, unaware of at the present time. Stories have been told that Alex was found in a storks sack at the back of a drum shop in Chicago. However these stories have not yet been confirmed. At any rate, Mr. Soandso is a hell of a drummer.

All four members of the VibeRiders have an extensive background in the music business, and are active session players.

The VibeRiders look forward to partying with you wherever that may be…
