FUNKSHUN & DOPPLER (D)EFECT FUNKSHUN are a 5-piece Vancouver funk 'n' groove band that are dedicated to gettin' your booty shakin'. With each of its members having a schooled background steeped in jazz, funk, & soul... Funkshun have the tools to deliver the shiver. With a lineup that includes guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, trumpet, & saxophone... Funkshun never fail to pack the dance floors of whatever party or FUNKtion that calls upon them for their expertise. Only one year after its inception, DOPPLER (D)EFECT have attracted much attention in Vancouver's electronic, jazz, & jam band communities. This is a live drum & bass band. That does not mean the band only play hard beats at breakneck speed... though it certainly goes that way at times!! However, the focus of the band is to groove as hard as possible, providing danceable music for its audience. THE ACHIN' BLUES BALLS BAND & BELUGA That's right folks, we're going back to the early 90's... a time of great health in Vancouver's live music scene when bands like the Achin' Blues Balls Band, Beluga, Crazy Fingers, She Stole My Beer, The Grames Bros., People Playing Music, & Roots Roundup (to name a few) were regularly packing the houses at the old Commodore Ballroom & the much missed Town Pump every weekend. The guys thought that it was time again for a little get together to jam things out, have a raging party, and let loose with all our old friends. This show is sure to be a good time and a stroll down memory lane. Not knowing exactly what direction they were going to take, they just started playin some jazz standards... live with some fill-in players. Eventually these shows started to turn into jam sessions with more of a funk element to them, evolving into a band that had a few set grooves but generaly just improvised the whole night. They eventualy got some solid members and called themselves the G-string Sextet. After the G-string thing died, Scott and Nathan put together Remedy X and have been ridin' the train ever since. Remedy X is now a band including: Shawn Jacobson (Dj Chipper) on the Keys, Roland 505 & 303, Turntables, and samplers... Scott Archibald on the Bass... Jason Nuatio on Guitar... Ben Price on Tenor Sax... & Nathan Jacobson on the Drums. Remedy X has recently completed a 5 song EP that has been released independently. Somewhere in the realm of music where Drum & Bass, Deep House, Funk, & Jazz all collide, the SPACE TIME CONTINUUM find its place of expression. A truly exhilarating & experimental mindset shared by its members is the driving force behind this Vancouver trio consisting of Mark Campbell on bass (Dubfreque), Gregor Phillips on drums (Kynkayd), and Lawrence "my last name escapes Keither right now" on Rhodes organ & synths (Funkshun). **cover - $6.00 Space Time Continuum: 10:00 - 11:45 Remedy X: 12:15 - 2:00 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Friday September 12 THE GRAMES BROTHERS & BRICKHOUSE Saturday September 13 BRICKHOUSE & THE GRAMES BROTHERS THE GRAMES BROTHERS have been a primary force in the Northwest music scene for the better part of a decade. The band dominated the B.C. circuit in the early 90’s and was selling out Vancouver night clubs on a regular basis. They took a four year sabbatical from playing together, in a move that Johannes characterizes as “wood shedding” and absorbing different influences to realize a fresh approach to song writing and sharing musical values. The Grames Brothers, consisting of Panos, Johannes, and Dinos Grames; and Randall Stoll, have successfully melded a lifetime of shared and separate influences into an upbeat hybrid of funk, soul, jazz and world beat. BRICKHOUSE are the lightning rod behind one of Vancouver's best & longest running parties. With close to 10 years experience regularly smoking Vancouver audiences & a song list consisting of hundreds of originals to draw from... Brickhouse has recently begun expanding their fanbase to extend into the jam & groove world, and are receiving an incredible response. Truly an experience to behold, and never a band that disappoints, Brickhouse are hooking up with long time friends and compatriots of Vancouver's music scene, The Grames Brothers, for a 2-night weekend run of MAD party grooves at the Side Door Cabaret.
