Geezers Need Excitement

Recommended Posts

I've been spending alot of time listening to completely new music (or completely new to me). Some of my new faves have been LA Underground MC Busdriver, Canadian supergroup Broken Social Scene (new to me), Cuff The Duke (fucking awesome). Today I read a piece in the Post about this british kid Mike Skinner aka The Streets who put out an album Original Pirate Material that's turning everyone's ear. Downloaded all his stuff and it's stellar, basically the next evolution of the UK Garage scene. It's Beerlariousness. You've got to get this shit. Weak Become Heroes, Too Much Brandy, Let's Push Things Forward and GEEZERS NEED EXCITEMENT are all wicked tracks. Not sure if this link will work but the video for the Irony is beerlarious as well, basically a dialogue between a burner and a lager lout. You'll all piss yourselves.

Hey glad you like Cuff The Duke! They're playing in Peterborough on April 3rd, its worth the drive I tells ya. They love Peterborough. I think they're playing in Toronto soon too with BA Johnston opening (he's also opening in PBro).

My new song of the day: "Strawberryfire" by Apples In Stereo... wow! Very much like The Beatles around Magical Mystery Tour time. Actually I thought it was the Beatles for a while at first.

Glad you spend all of your time in a great group jamhug and can't even sense when you're experiencing something unique or groundbreaking. Watch how much you hear about The Streets in the next year. Shit if any of our bands could write songs other than generic jam pop rock I'd listen to them all the time too.

Good songs.... good songs... good songs.... without good songs, the world stops and all we're left with is an endless, pointless, mind-numbing jam.

Shane - who is writing good material????[Confused]

Kung - thanks for the recommendations. [big Grin]

Sounds alright to me...probally have to give a few more listens though..but cool, thanks for the heads-up..always open to new music..

Heres a few I think are breaking molds and writing amazing material.

The Slip

Wassabi

Doug Feaver

Diesel Dog

Blue Quarter

But then again this is my opinion.......as was Show-Whores...his opinion.I'm sure he can defend himself..but I had to step up here..Shane has introduced me to all kinds of great music..aside from the jam scene...some really crazy alternative music, and being that I have been through the punk/thrash scene in the early 80's and then onto the Dead, its been refreshing to find some of this stuff all over again.

But I forget we are suppose to only speak up when it is in agreement with everyone... [Confused][Frown] ..sad

Kev0,

Check out some Scantily Plaid somtime...

Also I was refering to the material he has wrote, since the questioon wasn't who has wrote some good material latley, and I guess he does play some of the same songs all the time..but you can't argue with quality Canadiana..at least I don't.

Cheers.

oh ya I forgot that I need to break it down..into proper groups here..

People who wrote quality material IMO...

Doug Feaver

People who are writing quality material at present IMO

The Slip

Wassabi

Diesel Dog

Blue Quarter

just a few here..there are alot out there I know.

Marco-Feel better?I wasn't questioning you.I was just giving you my thoughts on who was writing quality music. The rest had absolutly nothing to do with you [Confused]

why does everything have to be about a song? i love songs- they are a huge part of music (obviously), but i also love music that has nothing to do with songs. i find myself more concerned with energy, originality, movement, ingenuity... (ie- drums and tuba, blue quarter)..

and on the topic of song writers in the canjam scene.. gtb writes great songs! i think. i like bnb, jsb and talas songs too. maybe they arent up to some strange level of quality thats been invented.. (radio? much music?) but i feel grand theft (in particulars) songs are very original, catchy, and make me dance.

my .02 ballz. [smile]

yeah, I do... thanks for asking. [Roll Eyes] I dig that you offered musical opinions. That's worth defending.

On the other hand, there's Kung-baiting. (oh, I see now, it was a joke....)

Why so defensive??

Actual coincidence hadn't even read Shane's post but I'm listening to Akrobatik's Internet MC's and somehow it seems fitting:

The internet's your medium of choice

cause nobody really wants to hear your corny ass voice

You ain't a MC just because you could type

On the mic in real life your ass'll get sniped

You a man with a mouse who can't rock the house

Jerkin off to gay porn while wearin your girl's blouse

You know you never seen no real life fame

So you're lookin for some recognition through a screen name

(No doubt)

No threat, y'all ain't the pro set

Rappin ten years and not a paid show yet

I love to get online and shine and drop bombs

but my music can be found on more than dot coms

(word up)

Your website gets a whole lot of hits (right)

but in the real world son you ain't sayin shit

Cats run they mouth on AOL

but everytime they drop a twelve inch, they don't sell

You love the anonymnity, you hide behind the shadow

Always tryin to get someone to chatroom battle

Cryin cause heads only rhyme one syllable

Who made the rule you gotta use every millisec

because it's fillable?

I'ma snatch your webmaster, break both his legs

Post it on your site, format it as .jpeg's

Rip you on your own site and sign your guestbook

then go into your chatroom and leave the rec shook

What percent of these rappers can compete? (Nil)

Reboot they whole shit, control-alt-delete

Yo, you can have a PC and a Mac

but you internet MC's can't see AK

There was nothing to defend about my opinion.

Defensive?

I didn't quote or question you my friend,so I am lost with where you are trying to go with that.

Again, my comments, except for the bands writing quality material, had absolutly nothing to do with you.

Ahem... I do like going to see Doug Feaver, but hasn't he been playing pretty much the same songs for years and years? (I haven't seen him in quite a while so maybe he's got some new songs?)

I'm sure he has and I respect Shane and his musical opinions, but I don't see any of them posted here in this thread. [Confused]
