h
Favourite Lyrics: what songs have your favourite lyrics? is it because it's complicated? simple, poetic, says exactly what you've always wanted to say? or is it just catchy? (i.e. oobla dee oobla da, life goes on, bra - which actually drives me but it was an example - ha ha or "love in an elevator, livin it up while i'm goin' down" damn i shoulda put that in the crazy lyric thread from the other week) one quick example: I have always liked they lyrics in Paint It Black - i think its simple portrays succinct imagery without being too flowery poetic http://www.exileonmainstreet.net/disco/aftermath/paintitblack.html

He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich.... Men at Work baby!!!

Booche
Witholding TONS (specially Darkstar), these ones always grab me by the boo-boo: But I'll get back on my feet again someday, The good Lord willin', if He says I may. I know that the life I'm livin's no good, I'll get a new start, live the life I should. I'll get up and fly away, I'll get up and fly away, fly away. (From Wharf Rat, put that together with the powerful music and singing of the Fat Man and LOOK OUT!) Strong and honorable mention to this section of Attics: When I had no wings to fly, you flew to me (This story is pretty much the same here as in the previous section of Wharf Rat) As far as JUST lyrics? Hmm, I would have to get back to you but Positively 4th Street has always helped to keep me grounded http://www.bobdylan.com/songs/positively.html

Tonberry
Christ, a lot of Tom Waits is good... Currently, a line I really enjoy is: "Come down off the cross, we could use the wood." from 'Come On Up to The House'...
scottieking
All lyrics may be paraphased - feel free to correct - lyrics that make me laugh "Ain't no devil, just God when he's drunk" Tom Waits "A women need a man like a fish needs a bicycle" U2 "Then he smoked my eyelids and punched my cigerette" Bob Dylan For pure lyricism, check the Weakerthans' album Left and Leaving. Pure poetic genius. Hawksley Workman ain't no slouch either.
h
Who keeps on trusting you when you've been cheatin' spending your nights on the town Who keeps on saying that he still wants you when you're through running around and who keeps on loving you when you've been lying saying things aren't what they seem Well God does, but I don't and God will, but I won't that's the difference between God and me
MarcO
Sappy as it sounds, I don't think I'll ever be able to hear this song, and not have every line, word and phrase hit me hard and just make me pause. And I don't even know why, and frankly I don't care. 5-9-77 baby..... the original Hunter version has an extra verse, but I edited it out so as to express how Jerry handled it (he edited it out too): Comes A Time (Hunter/Garcia) Comes a time when the blind-man takes your hand, says "Don't you see? Gotta make it somehow on the dreams you still believe." Don't give it up, you got an empty cup only love can fill, only love can fill. Been walking all morning went walking all night I can`t see much difference between the dark and light And I feel the wind And I taste the rain Never in my mind to cause so much pain. Comes a time when the blind-man takes your hand, says "Don't you see? Gotta make it somehow on the the dreams you still believe." Don't give it up, you got an empty cup only love can fill, only love can fill. From day to day just letting it ride. You get so far away from how it feels inside. You can't let go cause you're afraid to fall, But the day may come when you can't feel at all. Comes a time when the blind-man takes your hand, says "Don't you see? Gotta make it somehow on the dreams you still believe." Don't give it up, you got an empty cup only love can fill, only love can fill, only love can fill, only love can fill. Schwa.
Anything by Gordon Lightfoot. Hookah has very audience oriented lyrics, easy to relate to. Ecstasy is one of my faves of theirs for lyrics: "l'd like to sing you one more song because i'm feelin good. ya you know i'm feelin good. If i could take you all along We e ell you know i would ya you know i would....... Somethins got a hold of me I do believe its ecstasy!"
