puddles
Well, my cat CLEO is still in the Alta Vista kitty hospital after 4 days. She has not kept down any food and she is not reacting well to the meds AND the blood work reveals "unknown toxins"!!?? I have to decide by 9 am to keep on trying more test, surgey or...well,you know rest on Jerry's lap. The bill is now at $2234.97,thats alot of bones and probably will keep me from my trip to Holland in the fall. Some of you probably think that I should have given the cat the needle about $2000 ago but well I love her more than words can tell. I am not sure if my euthanasia beliefs come into play here. Well, time to flip a coin!?? Thanx for your time...Peace & Nugs, pudds.

arcane
Tough call, but it sounds like Cleo is getting worse without any guarantee of getting better. Cats tend to be prone to cancer, especially thanks to the Feline Leukemia Virus (not the same as Feline Leukemia, but nevermind)--see http://www2.dgsys.com/~ermiller/FeLV.html for more info. FeLV is a retrovirus, like HIV. It breaks down the immune system, making the cat more susceptible to other diseases.

scarlet
i have a cat too (paisley, the cutest tabby ever), so i kinda know where your coming from on the whole emotional attatchment thing. i think it goes with out saying that your cat is in a lot of pain, you know? tubes are in it and stuff, it cant keep down any food, they are doing all sorts of tests... i know you want to keep it living as long as possible so if they find anything the matter, the kitty problem is solved, but the longer your kitty is living, the more pain the kitty has to bear. "pullin the plug" may be more like puttling your cat out of its misery, you know? nothing can hurt your kitty cat anymore. youve already sacrificed tons for your kitty, too (a trip to holland... geeze). not trying to sound like, "kill the cat" or anything, try everything you got by all means... just a thought, though. CharlieDon'tSurf
having four cats (+ two dogs), all of which are young and in good health (knock on wood), I can only sympathize with ya puds... there is no easy decision here at all, cuz all the money in the world (whether or not it keeps you from a dream vacation or the likes doesn't really factor in) doesn't compare to the unconditional love of a pet.... sometimes I question the whole concept of pets. i mean, aside from some unexpected accident, we are generally gonna out live them...so, we inevitably have to face their demise. seems kinda morbid, but i tell myself that the enjoyment of giving them a home (we adopt all of our feline friends from the Humane Society), comfort and attention is worth it... no matter how you look at it, it isn't easy. you can never really 'replace' a lost pet, but you can try to fill the void
