Groove Fetish
http://www.guelphjazzfestival.com 11:30 pm St. Georges Anglican Church SHARK_T (Rob Mazurek, Chad Taylor, Matt Lux) Stu/Sen $12 Adult $16 SHARK_T (USA) One of the biggest hits at last year's Guelph Jazz Festival was an astonishing late-night performance by the Chicago Underground Duo. Their mesmerizing show in front of a capacity audience was notable both for its ability to attract new young audiences to the music, and for the way it combined a unique jazz sensitivity (harking back to the AACM and to the classic Don Cherry/Ed Blackwell duo) with the kind of spirit of sonic exploration characteristic of the best in post-rock. Indeed, as a feature story in The Wire declares, "The Chicago Underground Mob has pulverised and reconfigured post-rock and jazz." This year, we're delighted to welcome back Rob Mazurek (Chicago Underground, Isotope 217, Orton Socket) and Chad Taylor (Chicago Underground, Active Ingredients), as they join forces with bassist Matthew Lux (Isotope 217), spinning webs of frequency and beats and bottom in this first meeting of minds and sonic bliss.
