By JAM! Music

Legendary soul singer Barry White is undergoing dialysis after suffering kidney failure, the BBC reports.

The 58-year old crooner, known for his deep sensual voice, has suffered from years of high blood pressure and is hoping to to receive a kidney transplant.

The family has requested that details of his condition be kept confidential.

"Doctors confirm that Barry White has a history of hypertension (high blood pressure), which has led to a decline of kidney function," a statement from Island Def Jam Music Group said.

"He has started a course of maintenance dialysis therapy. Once stabilised, he will be a candidate for a kidney transplant."

White, affectionately known as "The Love Man," has sold over 100 million world wide in a career that has spanned 30 years. Some of his biggest hits include "You're the First, the Last, My Everything," and "Can't Get Enough of Your Love Babe."
