h Posted November 4, 2002 Report Share Posted November 4, 2002 This is just my friends band - funny If you're on the left coast and want to catch a slightly different kinda show, so check em out ************************* October 31, 2002 VOODOO DOLLZ SHOW BANNED BY MANDALAY BAY CASINO Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas - Too risque for Vegas? During the October 31st Halloween show by BIG JOHN BATES & the VOODOO DOLLZ at the House of Blues in the Mandalay Bay Casino, the Voodoo Dollz show was stopped short after only four numbers because casino management decided that pasties were nudity and that the burlesque performers wrestling in their latex catsuits equated with "simulated sex" being performed onstage. During a backstage costume change the Dollz were surrounded by HOB security and managment, who demanded the burlesque troupe end their show and not return to the onstage area or the entire evening's entertainment would be shut down. The Big John Bates band continued playing their rowdy psychobilly rock'n'roll and repeatedly had the audience chanting for the Dollz to continue but, even after ensuring HOB that they would keep covered at all times, the Voodoo Dollz were not allowed back onstage for the entire night. The Voodoo Dollz claim that their burlesque show is designed to be campy, in the vein of the Rocky Horror Picture Show and troupe leader Bombshell Betty states, "The House of Blues received a video tape of our show well before our performance took place and okayed the content. We invite audience participation during parts of our show and it can get edgy - but there is no nudity or sex onstage. There are billboards on the Strip showing more than we did."
