Slide against the fan, the room is clear,

Suddenly we have a vacuum.

In the mail a telegram, I could not wait, all aboard the caravan it leaves today,

And then the night comes on, the lights turn low,

fall asleep, all alone,

Consider for a second the ways of the world.

Maybe I'll throw myself a bone.

Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs,

But my back's not to the wall.

Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man,

But the days just aren't that long.

So if I settle back and chill,

Will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream?

I thought it was the story of the world.

Can I call out and say, everybody here,

Lend me an ear to talk to.

Can I call out and scream, the ways of the world,

Have got me singing another tune.

But the words are so familiar, I heard it before.

And you might dare to sing along.

With the crickets out chirping a random song,

Maybe I'll throw myself a bone.

Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs,

But my back's not to the wall.

Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man,

But the days just aren't that long.

So if I settle back and chill,

Will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream?

I thought it was the story of the world.

When frick turns to frack, there's no turning back,

and you got a slip tongue and a smack attack.

and there's colors like green and you're wearing black,

and your phone got flat on a railroad track.

but then the sun comes up and the day moves on,

and the old routine takes its toll,

and you feel like a copier rolling along,

maybe you'd throw yourself a bone.

Maybe you'd throw yourself to the dogs,

but you back's not to the wall.

Maybe you'd lay some bricks for the man,

But the days just aren't that long.

And if you settle back and chill,

Will you see far enough to feel the angel's dream?

I thought it was the story of the world.

I thought it was the story of the world.

I thought it was the story.

Now everybody have you heard

If you're in the game, then the stroke's the word

Don't take no rhythm, don't take no style

Got a thirst for killin', grab your vile...

You put your right hand out give a firm hand-shake

Talk to me about that one big break...

Spread your ear-pollution both far and wide...

Keep your contributions by your side and stroke me,

stroke me

Could be a winner boy, you move quite well...

You got your number down...

Say you're a winner but man you're just a sinner now

You put your left foot out keep it all in place...

Work your way right into my case

First you try to bed me you make my backbone slide

But when you found you bled me-- skip on by...

keep on---stroke me, stroke me

Give me the business all night long...

You're so together boy...

Say you're a winner but man you're just a sinner now

Better listen now (said) it ain't no joke

Let your conscience fail ya, just do the stroke

Don'tcha take no chances keep your eye on top

Do your fancy dances you can't stop you just stroke me,

stroke me

let the good times roll

let them knock you around

let the good times roll

let them make you a clown

let them leave you up in the air

let them brush your rock and roll hair

let them say what they want

let the photos be BOLD

let them show what they want

let them leave you up in the air

let them brush your rock and roll hair

let the good times roll

let the good times roll-oll

won't you let the good times roll

good times roll

if the illusion is real

let them give you a ride

if they got thunder appeal

let them be on your side

let them leave you up in the air

Mock (yeah)

ing (yeah)

bird (yeah)

yeah (yeah)

Mockin'bird, now

Everybody have you heard

He's gonna buy me a mockingbird

And if that mockingbird don't sing

He's gonna buy me a diamond ring

And if that diamond ring won't shine

He's gonna surely break this heart of mine

And that's why I keep on tellin' everybody

Say yeah, yeah whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, uh, oh

There's a house somewhere I know where's the fire's burning all night long

There's a swing outside on the porch where I feel like I'll

Rock away the dusk until the dawn

And even though the wind may be howlin'

The stars are bright and they push me on and on

There's a half moon risin' in the south eastern skies

There's a cold wind blowing across the great divide

And the stars they guide my way across the night

There's a half moon rising

It's pushin' me on to another mountain top

Push me on, no no I'll never stop, push me on home

There's a half moon rising in the south eastern skies tonight

Now the shoes on my feet, those soles broken down

And my coat is tattered and worn

And the hunger in my belly, and the fever in my head

Will vanish 'ere my first glimpse of home

And even though the rain may now be fallin'

The passion is deep and pushes me on

There's a half moon risin' in the south eastern skies

There's a cold wind blowing across the great divide

And the stars they guide my way across the night

There's a half moon rising

It's pushin' me on to another mountain top

Push me on, no no I'll never stop, push me on home

There's a half moon rising in the south eastern skies tonight

There's a still at dawn like the sound of your loves breath

As she lies sleeping

Down below me now in the valley

is the only peace on earth that I ever want to know

And her lips are as soft as I remember

She alone has brought me back on home

There's a half moon risin' in the south eastern skies

There's a cold wind blowing across the great divide

And the stars they guide my way across the night

There's a half moon rising

It's pushin' me on to another mountain top

Push me on, no no I'll never stop, push me on home

There's a half moon rising in the south eastern skies tonight

When yer head gets twisted and yer mind grows numb

When you think you're too old, too young, too smart or too dumb

When yer laggin' behind an' losin' yer pace

In a slow-motion crawl of life's busy race

No matter what yer doing if you start givin' up

If the wine don't come to the top of yer cup

If the wind's got you sideways with with one hand holdin' on

And the other starts slipping and the feeling is gone

And yer train engine fire needs a new spark to catch it

And the wood's easy findin' but yer lazy to fetch it

And yer sidewalk starts curlin' and the street gets too long

And you start walkin' backwards though you know its wrong

And lonesome comes up as down goes the day

And tomorrow's mornin' seems so far away

And you feel the reins from yer pony are slippin'

And yer rope is a-slidin' 'cause yer hands are a-drippin'

And yer sun-decked desert and evergreen valleys

Turn to broken down slums and trash-can alleys

And yer sky cries water and yer drain pipe's a-pourin'

And the lightnin's a-flashing and the thunder's a-crashin'

And the windows are rattlin' and breakin' and the roof tops a-shakin'

And yer whole world's a-slammin' and bangin'

And yer minutes of sun turn to hours of storm

And to yourself you sometimes say

"I never knew it was gonna be this way

Why didn't they tell me the day I was born"

And you start gettin' chills and yer jumping from sweat

And you're lookin' for somethin' you ain't quite found yet

And yer knee-deep in the dark water with yer hands in the air

And the whole world's a-watchin' with a window peek stare

And yer good gal leaves and she's long gone a-flying

And yer heart feels sick like fish when they're fryin'

And yer jackhammer falls from yer hand to yer feet

And you need it badly but it lays on the street

And yer bell's bangin' loudly but you can't hear its beat

And you think yer ears might a been hurt

Or yer eyes've turned filthy from the sight-blindin' dirt

And you figured you failed in yesterdays rush

When you were faked out an' fooled white facing a four flush

And all the time you were holdin' three queens

And it's makin you mad, it's makin' you mean

Like in the middle of Life magazine

Bouncin' around a pinball machine

And there's something on yer mind you wanna be saying

That somebody someplace oughta be hearin'

But it's trapped on yer tongue and sealed in yer head

And it bothers you badly when your layin' in bed

And no matter how you try you just can't say it

And yer scared to yer soul you just might forget it

And yer eyes get swimmy from the tears in yer head

And yer pillows of feathers turn to blankets of lead

And the lion's mouth opens and yer staring at his teeth

And his jaws start closin with you underneath

And yer flat on your belly with yer hands tied behind

And you wish you'd never taken that last detour sign

And you say to yourself just what am I doin'

On this road I'm walkin', on this trail I'm turnin'

On this curve I'm hanging

On this pathway I'm strolling, in the space I'm taking

In this air I'm inhaling

Am I mixed up too much, am I mixed up too hard

Why am I walking, where am I running

What am I saying, what am I knowing

On this guitar I'm playing, on this banjo I'm frailin'

On this mandolin I'm strummin', in the song I'm singin'

In the tune I'm hummin', in the words I'm writin'

In the words that I'm thinkin'

In this ocean of hours I'm all the time drinkin'

Who am I helping, what am I breaking

What am I giving, what am I taking

But you try with your whole soul best

Never to think these thoughts and never to let

Them kind of thoughts gain ground

Or make yer heart pound

But then again you know why they're around

Just waiting for a chance to slip and drop down

"Cause sometimes you hear'em when the night times comes creeping

And you fear that they might catch you a-sleeping

And you jump from yer bed, from yer last chapter of dreamin'

And you can't remember for the best of yer thinking

If that was you in the dream that was screaming

And you know that it's something special you're needin'

And you know that there's no drug that'll do for the healin'

And no liquor in the land to stop yer brain from bleeding

And you need something special

Yeah, you need something special all right

You need a fast flyin' train on a tornado track

To shoot you someplace and shoot you back

You need a cyclone wind on a stream engine howler

That's been banging and booming and blowing forever

That knows yer troubles a hundred times over

You need a Greyhound bus that don't bar no race

That won't laugh at yer looks

Your voice or your face

And by any number of bets in the book

Will be rollin' long after the bubblegum craze

You need something to open up a new door

To show you something you seen before

But overlooked a hundred times or more

You need something to open your eyes

You need something to make it known

That it's you and no one else that owns

That spot that yer standing, that space that you're sitting

That the world ain't got you beat

That it ain't got you licked

It can't get you crazy no matter how many

Times you might get kicked

You need something special all right

You need something special to give you hope

But hope's just a word

That maybe you said or maybe you heard

On some windy corner 'round a wide-angled curve

But that's what you need man, and you need it bad

And yer trouble is you know it too good

"Cause you look an' you start getting the chills

"Cause you can't find it on a dollar bill

And it ain't on Macy's window sill

And it ain't on no rich kid's road map

And it ain't in no fat kid's fraternity house

And it ain't made in no Hollywood wheat germ

And it ain't on that dimlit stage

With that half-wit comedian on it

Ranting and raving and taking yer money

And you thinks it's funny

No you can't find it in no night club or no yacht club

And it ain't in the seats of a supper club

And sure as hell you're bound to tell

That no matter how hard you rub

You just ain't a-gonna find it on yer ticket stub

No, and it ain't in the rumors people're tellin' you

And it ain't in the pimple-lotion people are sellin' you

And it ain't in no cardboard-box house

Or down any movie star's blouse

And you can't find it on the golf course

And Uncle Remus can't tell you and neither can Santa Claus

And it ain't in the cream puff hair-do or cotton candy clothes

And it ain't in the dime store dummies or bubblegum goons

And it ain't in the marshmallow noises of the chocolate cake voices

That come knockin' and tappin' in Christmas wrappin'

Sayin' ain't I pretty and ain't I cute and look at my skin

Look at my skin shine, look at my skin glow

Look at my skin laugh, look at my skin cry

When you can't even sense if they got any insides

These people so pretty in their ribbons and bows

No you'll not now or no other day

Find it on the doorsteps made out-a paper mache«

And inside it the people made of molasses

That every other day buy a new pair of sunglasses

And it ain't in the fifty-star generals and flipped-out phonies

Who'd turn yuh in for a tenth of a penny

Who breathe and burp and bend and crack

And before you can count from one to ten

Do it all over again but this time behind yer back

My friend

The ones that wheel and deal and whirl and twirl

And play games with each other in their sand-box world

And you can't find it either in the no-talent fools

That run around gallant

And make all rules for the ones that got talent

And it ain't in the ones that ain't got any talent but think they do

And think they're foolin' you

The ones who jump on the wagon

Just for a while 'cause they know it's in style

To get their kicks, get out of it quick

And make all kinds of money and chicks

And you yell to yourself and you throw down yer hat

Sayin', "Christ do I gotta be like that

Ain't there no one here that knows where I'm at

Ain't there no one here that knows how I feel

Good God Almighty

THAT STUFF AIN'T REAL"

No but that ain't yer game, it ain't even yer race

You can't hear yer name, you can't see yer face

You gotta look some other place

And where do you look for this hope that yer seekin'

Where do you look for this lamp that's a-burnin'

Where do you look for this oil well gushin'

Where do you look for this candle that's glowin'

Where do you look for this hope that you know is there

And out there somewhere

And your feet can only walk down two kinds of roads

Your eyes can only look through two kinds of windows

Your nose can only smell two kinds of hallways

You can touch and twist

And turn two kinds of doorknobs

You can either go to the church of your choice

Or you can go to Brooklyn State Hospital

You'll find God in the church of your choice

You'll find Woody Guthrie in Brooklyn State Hospital

And though it's only my opinion

I may be right or wrong

You'll find them both

In the Grand Canyon

At sundown

Since I'm on this kick:

Spanish lady come to me, she lays on me this rose

It rainbow spirals round and round, it trembles and explodes

It left a smoking crater of my mind I like to blow away

But the heat came round and busted me for smiling on a cloudy day

Coming, coming, coming around

Coming around, coming around, in a circle

Coming, coming, coming around

Coming around, coming around, in a circle

Escaping through the lily fields, I came across an empty space

It trembled and exploded, left a bus stop in its place

The bus came by and I got on, that's when it all began

There was Cowboy Neal at the wheel of the bus to never ever land

Coming, coming, coming around

Coming around, coming around, in a circle

Coming, coming, coming around

Coming around, coming around, in a circle

I remember when Elvis died

you all laid down and prayed and cried

every empire needs a king

I'm good looking and boy can I sing

he'll roll over in his grave

because of me, Rock 'n' Roll is saved

I'm so great and I'm so cool

I am the king and the rebels rule

it's me, myself, I am king

I am the king of Rock 'n' Roll

me, myself, I am king

I am the king of Rock 'n' Roll

the king is back and it's me

what more is there I can see

your lord and king is here to stay

where ordinary rock and roll act

we're not egotistic, just stating fact

think how many dreams came true

you waited many years, didn't you?

If you was not for your masters' *

you'd still be wandering in the *

it's me, myself, I am king

I am the king of Rock 'n' Roll

me, myself, I am king

I am the king of Rock 'n' Roll

the king is back and it's me

Happy Easter Weekend!

Sam Stone came home,

To his wife and family

After serving in the conflict overseas.

And the time that he served,

Had shattered all his nerves,

And left a little shrapnel in his knee.

But the morphine eased the pain,

And the grass grew round his brain,

And gave him all the confidence he lacked,

With a Purple Heart and a monkey on his back.

Chorus:

There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes,

Jesus Christ died for nothin' I suppose.

Little pitchers have big ears,

Don't stop to count the years,

Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios.

Mmm....

Sam Stone's welcome home

Didn't last too long.

He went to work when he'd spent his last dime

And Sammy took to stealing

When he got that empty feeling

For a hundred dollar habit without overtime.

And the gold rolled through his veins

Like a thousand railroad trains,

And eased his mind in the hours that he chose,

While the kids ran around wearin' other peoples' clothes...

Repeat Chorus:

Sam Stone was alone

When he popped his last balloon

Climbing walls while sitting in a chair

Well, he played his last request

While the room smelled just like death

With an overdose hovering in the air

But life had lost its fun

And there was nothing to be done

But trade his house that he bought on the G, I. Bill

For a flag draped casket on a local heroes' hill

Repeat Chorus

I can remember being seven years old

Having goldfish that circuled around in a bowl

I would watch the forest burn

and listen to the wind blow

I remember the table, the drapes, and the window

The dark brown everything: decoration, styling

Most of all, I can remember my mother smiling

Worn out and faded, my hometown was scrappy

More than anything she wanted us to be happy

Little to eat and back and forth to the hospital

She was right, it's better to be happy if possible

But the old man was under attack and was weak

And continued to beat us several times a week

He lived like a king even though we were piss poor

I tried to be strong and careful what I wished for

My outside ached, my inside stung

The long leather belt had replaced his tongue

Not knowing how to run or how

to hit the brakes

A white picket fence was built

around a pit of snakes

Both a wonder and frightening,

the thunder and the lightning

These were the sounds and sights

of a thousand fights

My mother, the poor fish, staging eternal

Charades and parades, for the raging inferno

Wanting to be happy, beaten all the while

Asking me always: "Why don't you ever smile?"

And she'd show me how to do it,

mother and wife

It was the saddest smile I ever saw in my life

It hurt worse than death but for her sake I tried

And one day all of those goldfish died

Hurricane, forest fire, out of control

Eyes open, floating on the water in the bowl

And when my father came home,

he walked through the door

And threw those fish to the cat

on the kitchen floor

And the wind died too and I was still a child

And the three of us watched as my mother smiled

Tom Waits The Ghosts of Saturday Night Lyrics

(After Hours at Napoleone's Pizza House)

A cab combs the snake,

Tryin' to rake in that last night's fare,

And a solitary sailor

Who spends the facts of his life

like small change on strangers...

Paws his inside P-coat pocket

for a welcome twenty-five cents,

And the last bent butt from a package of Kents,

As he dreams of a waitress with Maxwell House eyes

And marmalade thighs with scrambled yellow hair.

Her rhinestone-studded moniker says, "Irene"

As she wipes the wisps of dishwater blonde from her eyes

And the Texaco beacon burns on,

The steel-belted attendant with a 'Ring and Valve Special'...

Cryin' "Fill'er up and check that oil"

"You know it could be a distributor and it could be a coil."

The early mornin' final edition's on the stands,

And that town cryer's cryin' there with nickels in his hands.

Pigs in a blanket sixty-nine cents,

Eggs - roll 'em over and a package of Kents,

Adam and Eve on a log, you can sink 'em damn straight,

Hash browns, hash browns, you know I can't be late.

And the early dawn cracks out a carpet of diamond

Across a cash crop car lot

filled with twilight Coupe Devilles,

Leaving the town in a-keeping

Of the one who is sweeping

Up the ghost of Saturday night...

I especially love the bold lines above.

Sounds like a goddess of a woman.

Origin Of Love

When the earth was still flat,

And the clouds made of fire,

And mountains stretched up to the sky,

Sometimes higher,

Folks roamed the earth

Like big rolling kegs.

They had two sets of arms.

They had two sets of legs.

They had two faces peering

Out of one giant head

So they could watch all around them

As they talked; while they read.

And they never knew nothing of love.

It was before the origin of love.

The origin of love

And there were three sexes then,

One that looked like two men

Glued up back to back,

Called the children of the sun.

And similar in shape and girth

Were the children of the earth.

They looked like two girls

Rolled up in one.

And the children of the moon

Were like a fork shoved on a spoon.

They were part sun, part earth

Part daughter, part son.

The origin of love

Now the gods grew quite scared

Of our strength and defiance

And Thor said,

"I'm gonna kill them all

With my hammer,

Like I killed the giants."

And Zeus said, "No,

You better let me

Use my lightening, like scissors,

Like I cut the legs off the whales

And dinosaurs into lizards."

Then he grabbed up some bolts

And he let out a laugh,

Said, "I'll split them right down the middle.

Gonna cut them right up in half."

And then storm clouds gathered above

Into great balls of fire

And then fire shot down

From the sky in bolts

Like shining blades

Of a knife.

And it ripped

Right through the flesh

Of the children of the sun

And the moon

And the earth.

And some Indian god

Sewed the wound up into a hole,

Pulled it round to our belly

To remind us of the price we pay.

And Osiris and the gods of the Nile

Gathered up a big storm

To blow a hurricane,

To scatter us away,

In a flood of wind and rain,

And a sea of tidal waves,

To wash us all away,

And if we don't behave

They'll cut us down again

And we'll be hopping round on one foot

And looking through one eye.

Last time I saw you

We had just split in two.

You were looking at me.

I was looking at you.

You had a way so familiar,

But I could not recognize,

Cause you had blood on your face;

I had blood in my eyes.

But I could swear by your expression

That the pain down in your soul

Was the same as the one down in mine.

That's the pain,

Cuts a straight line

Down through the heart;

We called it love.

So we wrapped our arms around each other,

Trying to shove ourselves back together.

We were making love,

Making love.

It was a cold dark evening,

Such a long time ago,

When by the mighty hand of Jove,

It was the sad story

How we became

Lonely two-legged creatures,

It's the story of

The origin of love.

That's the origin of love.

Come on mamma, put your good dress on

The night is young and we're goin' downtown

Where faces come and faces go

It ain't very far you know

Come on mamma, is it really that hard

To lose yourself right where you are

Till your money's gone and your mind is bent

You couldn't say where midnight went

Winding pathways, blind-sided fools

How could you let them get the best of you

Stumblin' footfalls, someone calls your name

Been calling you, stay just the same, just the same

Come on mamma, let it fade away

For good this time and gone we'll stay

All the scenes are gonna pass on by

I swear we'll leave it all behind

Winding pathways, blind-sided fools

How could you let them get the best of you

Stumblin' footfalls, someone calls your name

Been calling you, stay just the same, just the same

Comes a time when the blind man takes your hand

Says "don't you see?"

Gotta make it somehow

On the dreams you still believe

Don't give it up

You got an empty cup

Only love can fill

Only love can fill

Been walking all morning

Went walking all night

I can't see much difference

Between the dark and light

And I feel the wind

And I taste the rain

Never in my mind

To cause so much pain

Comes a time when the blind man takes your hand

Says "don't you see?"

Gotta make it somehow

On the dreams you still believe

Don't give it up

You got an empty cup

Only love can fill

Only love can fill

From day to day

Just letting it ride

You get so far away

From how it feels inside

You can't let go

'Cause you're afraid to fall

But the day may come

When you can't feel at all

Comes a time when the blind man takes your hand

Says "don't you see?"

Gotta make it somehow

On the dreams you still believe

Don't give it up

You got an empty cup

Only love can fill

Only love can fill

*Interesting fact*

Hunter's handwritten lyrics include this verse, and show the development of this song:

And the words come out

Like an angry stream

Hear your own voice say

Things you could never mean

When the heat cools down

You find your mind

Got a lot or words

You got to stand behind

Comes a time when the deaf man takes your hand

Says "can't you hear?"

If she's good for you

It isn't what you say

It's who you are for her

Just from day to day

She knows you short

She knows you long

A love like that

Can make a weak man strong

Comes a time when the blind man takes your hand

Says "don't you see?"

Gotta make it somehow

On the dreams you still believe

Don't give it up

You got an empty cup

Only love can fill

Only love can fill

Just one dream to call across the years

Back in the thirties when the dust bowl dried

And the woods in Alabama didn't see no light

My Daddy played poker by a hard wood fire

Squeezing all his luck from a hot copper wire

Scrap like a wildcat fights till the end

Trap a wildcat and take his skin

Deal from the bottom, put the ace in the hole

One hand on the jug but you never do know

since today is "Power Metal Fridays" at work.. I present you all with Heart Of A Dragon by Dragonforce... feel the majesty!

Proud and so glorious standing before of us

Our swords will shine bright in the sky

When united we come to the land of the sun

With the heart of a dragon we ride

We are flying on wings in winter sky with fire burning deep inside

We are warriors of endless time forever and on

On wings of steel an ancient flight we see the powers that unite

The gods will now send us a sign of battle once more

Through the valley we ride full of glory we soar

Where the fights will be raging for now and for more

When united we come and divided they fall

Tonight you will witness it all

Proud and so glorious standing before of us

Our swords will shine bright in the sky

When united we come to the land of the sun

With the heart of a dragon we ride

A land unknown we come so far

We ride the night till morning star

When colours fade to black and white

Your eyes come to sight

With the vision of a great divide

You turn towards the other side

You think you run but you can't hide

The dead can not ride

Through the valley we ride full of glory we soar

Where the fights will be raging for now and for more

When united we come and divided they fall

Tonight you will witness it all

Proud and so glorious standing before of us

Our swords will shine bright in the sky

When united we come to the land of the sun

With the heart of a dragon we ride

Over high seas and mountains

We fly to the heavens on wings of a dragon tonight

Proud and so glorious standing before of us

Our swords will shine bright in the sky

Proud and so glorious standing before of us

Our swords will shine bright in the sky

When united we come to the land of the sun

With the heart of a dragon

The heart of a dragon

The heart of a dragon we ride

Hey, what's that out there in the park?

Well, I'll tell you what that is, I think it's this:

In the park, nearly dark, what do I now hear, hark hark.

Is it really leprechauns, and have they come back to rock 'n' roll?

Yes, it's them there on the lawn, it's been so long since they've been gone

But Mother Nature's leprechauns have come back to rock 'n' roll.

A-dadda-dum-da-da-da-da-da-la-da

Hum-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-la

Hum-da-da-da-da-da-la

They've come back to rock 'n' roll.

A-dadda-dum-da-da-da-da-da-la-da

Hum-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-la

Hum-da-da-da-da-da-la

They've come back to rock 'n' roll.

See them rockin' and a-rollin', they're wobblin' and a-wiggling'

And they're fumblin' and a-gigglin', well they're here to rock 'n' roll.

Well, they're a-rockin' and a-rollin', and they're wobblin' and a wigglin'

Well, they're rockin' and a-gigglin', oh they're here to rock 'n' roll.

Well, they're sort of bein' sideways, get no slid

They're plain to see and they're hard to hit.

Well, they don't act now like they used to did

And they done come back to rock 'n' roll.

Well, how they doin' and how they been?

Glad to see them all back again

Well, they're Mother Nature's leprekins, and they done come back to rock 'n' roll.

Hum-dadda-dum-da-da-da-da-da-la-da

Hum-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-la

Hum-da-da-da-da-da-la

They've come back to rock 'n' roll.

Hum-dadda-dum-da-da-da-da-da-la-da

Hum-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-la

Hum-da-da-da-da-da-la

They've come back to rock 'n' roll.

what did you do to my life? when we were living together (i thought that) i knew you would stay. still when you left me i tried to pretend we could make it some way.

it's hard enough losing without the confusion of knowing i tried. but you've made your mind up that i'll be alone. now there's nothing to hide. i don't care if all of the mountains turn to dust in the air. it isn't fair that i should wake up at dawn and not find you there. what did you do to my life?

--n.y.

For my cousin, Puff, who needs love and support right now...

There are times when you can beckon,

There are times when you must call.

You can take a lot of reckoning,

But you can't take it all.

There are times when I can help you out,

And times when you must fall.

There are times when you must live in doubt

And I can't help at all.

[Chorus 1]

Three blue stars rise on the hill

Sing no more now just be still

All these trials soon be past

Look for something built to last

A wind held by the collar,

Yes, a cloud held by the breeze

You can walk on coals of fire

But sometimes you must freeze

There are times when you offend me

And I do the same to you

If we can't or won't forget it

I guess we could be through

[Chorus 2]

One blue star sets on the hill

Call it back you never will

One more star sinks in the past

Show me something built to last

Built to last till time itself falls tumbling from the wall

Built to last till sunshine fails and darkness moves on all

Built to last while years roll past like cloudscapes in the sky

Show me something built to last or something built to try

There are times when you get hit upon

Try hard but you can't give

Other times you'd gladly part

With what you need to live

Don't waste your breath to save your face

When you have done your best

And even more is asked of you

Fate will decide the rest

[Chorus 3]

All the stars are gone but one

Morning breaks here comes the sun

Cross the sky now sinking fast

Show me something built to last

People say I'm no-good,

And crazy as a loon.

I get stoned in the morning,

I get drunk in the afternoon.

Kinda like my old blue tick hound,

I like to lay around in the shade,

An', I ain't got no money,

But I damn sure got it made.

'Cos I ain't askin' nobody for nothin',

If I can't get it on my own.

If you don't like the way I'm livin',

You just leave this long-haired country boy alone.
