phunkyb
Do they just play the album or is it actually done live, I never figured that one out. If it is live who will be the musicians playing?
Velvet
It's actually done by marrionettes.
TimmyB
They perform the album live at Classic Albums Live. I don't know the musicians who will be on stage. I believe it's an ever revolving door of performers.
MarcO
How can a greatest hits collection count as a "classic album"???
Jaimoe
It's also performed exactly note-for-note.
TimmyB
How can a greatest hits collection count as a "classic album"??? I have no idea?
Jaimoe
They've also done Bob Marley's Greatest Hits collection: Legend. This Classic Albums series is Q-107-centric, so it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise that they include Greatest Hits collections. Patchoulia
The guitarist from The Headstones is involved in this--but I don't know any of the other musicians.
elemeno
so its note for note, but do they sing??? from what i heard on Q107 its a revolving cast of musician that do this classic album thing.
Jaimoe
They sing too.
hamilton
They've also done Bob Marley's Greatest Hits collection: Legend.Yeah, but at least Legend is a classic album - despite its compilation status. Just about everyone on the planet owns it... if you own only one reggae album, this is probably it; if you own more than one reggae album, this was probably the first one you ever bought. That Grateful Dead thingy was released last year, and I'm sure that it isn't owned by millions the world over. They should have chosen American Beauty or Workingman's Dead if they wanted a classic Dead album. Jaimoe
They should have chosen American Beauty or Workingman's Dead if they wanted a classic Dead album. What? No Shakedown Street or Go To Heaven?
Buffy420
[color:"green"] Is is worth the 3 hour drive to Toronto?
Jaimoe
I live in Toronto and I want nothing to do with any of these gimmiky concerts. No improve and all covers done identically = not as good as the original albums.
Tickler
seriously, if I was in Toronto and had nothing to do that night, then yeah why not. But I would not drive 30 minutes to see it. I'd just throw on the cd from the comforts of my living room.
ike
I like the concept. I like the band they chose. But the album, come on now, that it so weak. There are so many other albums they could have chose, what the hell were they thinking. Oh and there's way too many bobby tunes too.
Jay Funk Dawg
it's funny that you almost never hear any Dead on Q107 anyways... they might play "Truckin'" once a month, if that. The Dead pretty much define Classic Rock in my books.
Jaimoe
Plus, there isn't a definitive Grateful Dead Best Of album nor should there ever be.
MarcO
And not that I want to rag on this choice too much, but what really is the point of playing Grateful Dead songs "note-for-note"?!?! Isn't that completely contrary to the spirit of what they tried to accomplish for 30 years?
Fendermender
Yeah, you might as well go down to Mavericks in Ottawa on December 11th to see TMNS play the 'Dead. (shameless plug...) They can't play it note for note, anyway!
ollie
That shameless plug is good news to me. Right on!
Velvet
"Isn't that completely contrary to the spirit of what they tried to accomplish for 30 years?" Let's up the ante a little bit: Aren't note-for-note cover bands completely contrary to the spirit of rock music?
