bONES
oh man trying to think back over the past years shows i attended has got my brain a little boggled :: some i can think of... The Spades - every Friday night at the MoHo :: I think Phix were sometime in the spring Steve Kimock Band with the wicked Rodney Holmes on drums were a month later or something...or was that last year?!?! Ratdog in Vancouver back in March Gov't Mule not too long ago The Blind Boys of Alabama were pretty wicked! (I love a good Jesus tune, and they do them WELL) saw The Slip in May and then 3 more times in October Burning Spear was one of my favourite shows and venues of the summer The Tragically Hip show was my first for them. It was o.k. Taj Mahal and The Funk Brothers w/ Joan Osborne were at the same festival (Wasaga Beach Blues) and better than The Hip IMO, and Jaga Jazzist were the highlight of the weekend :: I saw my last nero show until who knows when in Lindsay last time they were through i know there were more

secondtube
I'm gonna do something a little different. Rather than just lookat all my stubs, and list the shows i've seen, cause we've all seen hordes of shows... i'm going to list the shows that were so meaningful to me, i'll probably rememeber them in 20 years from now. Herbie Hancock Trio Chick Corea Elektric Band Organ and Drums ummm..... (going off the top of my head here) oh ya, Dave Holland Quintet ummm.... Guess those were my favorite shows...as they are the ones sticking out in my head above the rest.
AdamH
Good lord I couldn't remember everything I saw this year. I will agree that Guelph is the best own to party in though, no wonder I spent so long there after University. As per Secondtube's idea: 1. Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Brian Blade and Dave Holland at the Ottawa Jazz Festival. Me and all the stupid funk hippies were speechless after that. 2. Wilco at CMH. 3. Jaga Jazzist at Bluesfest. secondtube
"Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Brian Blade and Dave Holland" Damn....three of my favorite jazz musicans i've ever seen live, and then add brian blade, probably the number one jazz musician i still want to see.... Amazing! (what was the style? Laid back jazz? In your face jazz? technical improv jazz?)
AdamH
God, just thinking about that show makes my hair stand up... Umm, well I don't know what the right jargon is for this but some of it sort of crept up on you. Brian's drumming (and I probably mentioned this to you way back when I saw this show) was just outstanding and yet so subtle. Most of the playing was quite delicate in tone but it never became boring and uninteresting....it left me with a bit of a mad scientist feeling about them because even with all the subtlety you could hear that fire-breathing dragon just waiting to come out. It wasn't laid back nor was it balls out experimentation. I guess it sort of fell in between, with intricate progressions based at certain points on a stop/start sort of style rather than a pulsing, driving style of jazz. Perfect Description! I still can't believe i haven't seen Brian Blade...ive heard so much about him! I wanted to catch the Toronto show that band did, but i was up north fishing, the ONLY thing that takes precidence over Quality Music!
