AdamH
Good list so far. If this list is "all time" I'm not sure how to fit this in, but anyone who's seen Paul McLeod play Jimmy Jazz in Guelph would know that the guy should be to the moon by now, having worked with Hawksley Workman and a few others but still maintaining his weekly gig in G-town. I would also have to throw Zen Guerilla out there because I saw them two years ago and was a changed man after. Esteban I am looking in your direction with these guys because they're sort of a throwback to The Who, only a Who that hung out with Ozzie in the good old days. guigsy
smog all things stephen malkmus, aside from maybe pavement.. a lot of people seemed to dig them... but the silver jews, the jicks, and his solo stuff definitely deserve more attention, i think. Kaidy Mae
Catherine Wheel: one of the best bands to come out of the UK in the last decade Good call Low Roller! "Eat My Dust, You Insensitive F_ck" is one of the best bitter break-up songs ever. And what about Mike Patton from Faith No More? Anyone ever get down to some of his Mr. Bungle stuff? "Girls of Porn" is one of the best dirty funk songs ever. Scotty, you're dead on about G.Love. That poor bastard has been busting his misters for about 10 years now. No way he should've been opening for Jack (as much as I dig him too). Even for the simple fact that his music is what you'd rather end the night with...not Hawaii-inspired love songs. Save those for cuddling. When I'm smashdown drunk at the Amphitheatre, I wanna hear some "Cold Beverages"!
ggrtrhhrtgg
Col. Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit. Col.Bruce and anyone for that matter....Now that is a show I would love to see at PJs...
AD
smog all things stephen malkmus, aside from maybe pavement.. a lot of people seemed to dig them... but the silver jews, the jicks, and his solo stuff definitely deserve more attention, i think. Slint and Tortoise are definitely on my list.... Silver Jews wasn't really Malkmus' band, it was all David Berman songs (but they are great yes). I thought the Jicks stuff was SUPER WEAK from Malkmus. Glad I didn't pay money for those albums. Pavement has gone from under-rated, to over-hyped, to under the radar to forgotten for most people. I still listen to Crooked Rain about once a week, and those re-issues that are coming out now are pretty nice sounding. Too bad they couldn't release more previously unreleased stuff. A lot of the bonus materials I already have in singles / boots / eps etc... Spiral Stairs (Kannberg) wrote some good songs (all sounding identical with Pavement) but Preston School of Industry really really sucked big time. Kaidy Mae
If we're talking all-time here, I gotta say Django Reinhardt too. Also, Outback and Baka Beyond were pretty much ignored until Graham Wiggins went on to form Dr. Didg. I had another one, but I forgot it. Damn! I hate it when that happens.
