Calamity Jane
Paul Simon's rocked my world for many years -- lots of fav tunes and I love that he's so diverse: between shake-yer-booty joyous and lump-in-the-throat sorrow/regret/pain. An example of the latter is from Slip Sliding Away: "And I know a father who had a son He longed to tell him all the reasons for the things he’d done He came a long way just to explain He kissed his boy as he lay sleeping Then he turned around and he headed home again" Can barely sing along--somehow that image just gets me. I think it's his talent for painting images -- that wordsmith ability I dig so much. I've often used "I am a Rock" and "Sounds of Silence", among others, in my poetry units at school. it's definitely time today for some Paul Simon! Dr_Evil_Mouse
Hmmm. Modify... inescapably! (sorry Paul) Got the Negotiations collection on right now. Pretty sweet stuff. The changes in a tune like Train in the Distance are so rich, it strikes the heart. Brilliant lyricist on top of it all, too. Sorry, must go listen.
