April 7 - Rheostatics to Play Halifax with Grand Theft Bus

(Halifax, NS) March 28, 2005 - The Rheostatics are coming to Halifax April 7h. Canada’s favorite band will be playing Reflections with Grand Theft Bus.

The Rheostatics have released eleven albums since 1987 — only one a major label release, which speaks to their independent spirit, tenacity and mutual, though not unchallenged, commitment. Inspired by such national treasures as the Group of Seven, Stompin’ Tom Connors, the divinatory — not divine — government of Mackenzie King, rolling prairies, Canada’s national game, les couriers du bois and more, the Rheos have plundered the Canadian mythos to become a kind of bedrock myth themselves.

The Rheos’ live shows are legendary among fans and often exceed two hours. The band sometimes abandons the stage - and amplification - in favour of the dance floor for a short acoustic set, and everyone is encouraged to sing along. Other times, extended jams on old favourites open up new possibilities, and songs are reinterpreted with greater complexity - or satisfying simplicity.

Hailing from Eastern Canada, Grand Theft Bus has garnered a reputation as one of Canada’s busiest and most exciting new bands. Although known for their sprawling exploratory live performance, this band is concerned with reinventing themselves musically and creating on their own terms. Grand Theft Bus develops their songs with unlimited creative freedom while maintaining the utmost respect for the listener. This band loves making music.

Tickets are on sale now at CD Plus Barrington Street, Halifax Shopping Centre, Taz Records, and Reflections. For More information on these and other shows, as well as ticket prices, advance ticket locations and online sales, check out www.giganticentertainment.ca.
