~Random Memory Thread~

you know when things just pop into your head that make you smile? or even just random memories you suddenly think of? here's a couple i just had:

- when i was about 7 years old, i found a purple balloon with ribbons tied to it in my backyard. inside, was a little rolled up piece of paper that said "hi my name is becky and i am from michigan, if you find this balloon, please write to me" -- basically a random, stab-in-the-dark, find a penpal by sticking a note in a balloon & sailing it off kind of thing. i thought it was pretty neat that first of all, the girl had the same fricken name as me, and also that the balloon had sailed from michigan, clear to kitchener, ON. i wrote her a letter... and of course, in typical fashion, never got around to mailing it, but that's probably a whole other story.

- misspink & i, playing a duet on the piano, and trying to tap dance at the same time, to add a bit of percussion to the number. okay, as if that's not freakin' difficult enough, trying to do so when you're pretty much collapsing with hysterical laughter sure makes for quite a spectacle! :D

what are some of the little random bits & pieces of memories y'all have travelling through your noggins? :)

Oh man, growing up on a shitty little island just gave me so many of these memories to choose from.

Me and my friend Jason loved to search for frogs when were little. We'd go down to the farmer's fields and search the bogs endlessly. One time we were extra brave and found a way to the other side of the bog. Treasure trove baby. There were like 10 HUGE frogs over there. They started hopping away. I caught one and he started croaking at like full volume!! It freaked me out and I had to let him go.

I still love to watch froggies :P

thinking about my university days in Montreal; the lack of responsibility besides school (hardly a responsibility), the constant never ending party with my best friends, the music of the city, the beautiful women, the vibe. Such great times and I'm glad I never took any of it for granted.

Many travel memories and weird coincidences while travelling...too numerous, really.

some awesome X-rated memories (combined with travel, and local 'stimulants') (for Dave & I alone, really)

hmmm, what can actually be shared...?

Steve-O and I once talked about "getting lost as children" memories.....maybe this is the thread.

Fuzzy childhood memories are really interesting. When I was about 3 (living in Vanier) I convinced my sick and pregnant mom to let me walk to the corner store with some local older kids (because I had a free coupon for chips). When the older kids realized it was only for 1 bag of chips, they refused to accompany me, and I must have set off bravely by myself.

the mext memory I have is of looking around me and NOTHING BEING FAMILIAR. I must have just turned the wrong way, but suddenly I felt like I was on MARS!

Next memory, some kind woman asking if I was lost and telling me to stand at the end of her driveway. While there, I remember a man trying to use a glass of water as a level (I now realize) and cursing a blue streak in french (it's wahy I love hearing Cjamson do so when we're together!!!) becasue his glass split/broke for the umpteenth time. I swore he was thinking I did it, when the woman (his daughter, probably) came back and walked me to the police station.

I sat on a policeman's desk, mute and terrified, police cap on my head and bag of police-bought candy scrunched in my sweaty hands (do they still do this...????) until my mom ran, hysterical, through the door. I hadn't been able to tell them my name, so they hadn't been able to contact my family. Apparently my mom,.freaking out over my absence, accosted a police officer patrolling our neighbourhood, asking if he was there to deliver news of my untimely death. 2 & 2 were put together, my mom was escorted to the police station, and as family legend has it, when I saw her, I finally SPOKE, blurting out the words, "Oh, thank you mommy!!"

my dad putting me to bed (maybe 4 or 5 yrs old) when i wasn't feeling well...i kept crying and saying i felt sick, he kept saying 'no, you're gonna be fine, just lie down', i kept insisting but he wouldn't listen, and then i threw up ALL over him. hehe

another similar episode...in the car on the way to skate at stanley park with the family...i kept saying i was going to be sick, but he didn't pull over, and i puked all over and in his skates.

moral: if phorbesie tells ya she's gonna be sick, get the girl a bucket, and some water for christsake! ;)

now...

when i was wee youngin', maybe 4 or so, my aunt gave me a dollar bill and told me i had to share, and give half to my sister. she was a newborn, maybe 1 at the time.. so, i ripped it in half and gave it to her. oddly enough, though, i ripped it diagonally, so they made 2 triangles.

hmmm, getting into a HUGE fight with my imaginery friend when i was 4 or 5 and trapping her in a pizza box. her name was ah-bee-loo-bee-loo. yeah, i know what your thinking, well shut it, i was an only child. I carried her out to the garbage room (we lived in an apt. building), folded the pizza box in half so it would fit, and throwing it down the garbage shoot.

Came back and told my mum I killed abeeloobeeloo and she said "THANK GOD!! and I thought you were just taking the garbage out!"

first memory ever: falling out of bed at the family cottage.

Alexis...your story scares me

I never had an imaginery friend (as far as I know!) but...

I use to collect dozens of caterpillars onto paper plates and then either:

a: slowly ride my bicycle over them; or

b: toss the plate onto Portsmouth Ave (a busy street back in the days in Kingston) and watch the city buses run over them

I'm not so proud of that now, but it sure was "cool" back then

When I was four or so my family went to Colasanti's, which is this huge indoor tropical garden place with plants and animals and stuff. They had this humungous cactus which was awesome!

Anyways, I was to be pulled around in a red wagon by my older sis who is four years older than me. We split up from the rest to go cruising around the place. Well, after about 5 seconds I pretty much hated being pulled around and I decided I'd be better off choosing my own destiny and hopped out of the wagon and split. Sure enough, not long after I was lost in a crazy maze of strangers. This guy noticed my predicament and picked me up and took me to the info booth so my whereabouts could be announced and I coud be retrieved by my parents.

The nice man was asking my name so they could announce it over the PA. I think I was crying and he couldn't understand me and kept confirming the wrong name - Gary? No keri! Jerry? No keri! Terry? (You get the idea...) This made me so frustrated that I kinda just wanted to be put down so I could go find them on my own. They made the announcement and soon enough my Mom showed up and I was passed over into her arms. I have never in my life been more happy to see her.

Do you still have the letter? You should send it! Who knows...

Given that that scene's the high point of the movie, not bad. I'm guessing, though, the movie didn't go off after that....

I have a nice memory of being around 5 and seeing Monty Python for the first time, being allowed to stay up late because we were going out to pick my dad up at the airport. Nice to know some good things stick. I just wish I could remember precisely what episode it was.

One of my earliest memories is when we still lived on a farm. My mom put all her kids in the livingroom and told us not to move. There was a lot of commotion and her and Dad were rushing around and stuff. My Dad grabbed a gun and we heard a shot go off. Later, my mom sat down with us all and said that our dog got hit by a car and Dad had to put it out of it's misery.

Speaking of Dad killing things, that sparked another chilhood memory. My dad was lopping of the heads of our chickens and they kept running around afterwards bumping into the barn wall and stuff. I screamed and screamed.

Another memory from when I was a wee one, was when I pushed my younger brother down the slide to make him go faster. He fell off the slide near the top and broke his arm. I felt so bad for the entire 6 weeks his cast was on.

Oh you're going to love this one. One time, we were in a department store and I kept telling my mom that I had to pee. I guess I got away from her and peed in the display toilet in the plumbing department. Hey, a toilet's a toilet. They didn't make us buy it.

There's just certain things you can get away with as a kid. If an adult pulled that stunt, the cops would be called.

Have you seen that one episode of Jackass? Buddy got away with it! Not sure what went down AFTER the cameras were turned off though! The hardware store guy couldn't believe it.
