Esau
Heres the press release I posted yesterday...Definatley an interesting gig,I wish he'd open or even play up here.Although it would be a stretch for me to pay the Stones ticket price (having seen em a couple times) but if they played up here, seeing as I wanna see Trey live again,I imagine I'd pay.-----------------------------------------------PRESS RELEASE - Rolling Stones/U. Va. Charottesville, VA/10-6-05 - Support Added and Tickets Being Released!Ameriquest PresentsROLLING STONESON STAGECHARLOTTESVILLE - OCTOBER 6/05 - SCOTT STADIUM (U.Va.)TREY ANASTASIO CONFIRMED AS SUPPORT ARTIST!Wednesday, June 15, 2005 – Charlottesville: Fan favorite Trey Anastasio has been added to the thrilling list of top opening acts for the "Rolling Stones: On Stage" World Tour which already includes the Black Eyed Peas, Maroon 5, Pearl Jam, John Mayer Trio, Joss Stone, The Tragically Hip and Our Lady Peace. Rolling Stones Onstage will combine the spectacular production and charismatic performances that fans have come to expect. The band will be working closely with the design team responsible for the sensational sets, dramatic effects, and state-of-the art technology on previous tours from “Steel Wheels” to “Licks.” Continuing their historic creative partnership, Mick and Keith began writing together last autumn and have since recorded with Charlie and Ronnie. Their highly anticipated full-length studio CD with all new material will be released by Virgin Records in conjunction with the tour.Trey Anastasio will open for the Stones at the Scott Stadium/Charlottesville on October 6th. After spending the latter part of 2004 writing new material following Phish's farewell tour, Trey recorded some demos and began auditioning musicians at The Barn for his new project. After months of writing and recording, an old friend and three new collaborators made the cut and formed Trey's latest project -- 70 VOLT PARADE. Trey's new quintet consists of Peter Chwazik (bass - Ithaca, NY), Les Hall (keys, guitar, synths - Cola, SC), Skeeto Valdez (drums - Detroit, MI) and from previous Trey projects, Ray Paczkowski (keys - Burlington, VT). The band spent the winter recording at The Barn in Vermont, as well as studios in Nashville and Atlanta. Following a solid month of live rehearsals at The Barn, the band made their public debut on April 1, 2005 at The Higher Ground in South Burlington, VT performing a sold-out benefit concert for the Vermont Land Trust. They played a handful of new material as well as new takes on older material from Trey's previous bands including Phish as well as an energetic cover of "I Am The Walrus." Like much of Trey's work, this group's sound is hard to define in conventional terms but is rooted in high-energy rock and roll. With the 70 Volt Parade, Trey's trademark compositions interweave well-crafted songs with his strong command of improvisation and exploration creating a result that's both cerebral and danceable. Also announced, a number of “limited view” side stage tickets will go on sale today at 5:00 pm.Tickets are $95.00 and $60.00 plus service charge and will be available at all Ticketmaster outlets, charge by phone (Charlottesville) 888-808-8660, (Blacksburg) 540-951-8427, (Lynchburg) 434-846-8100, (Roanoke) 540-343-8100, (Williamsburg) 757-872-8100 (Richmond) 804-262-8100, (Norfolk/Va. Cully
no way....I know that I have been a fan of Trey amongst all you Trey-bashers, but after hearing about this show I may have to turn to the Dark Side. Has Trey lost his mind?!?

CyberHippie
Seems that way... I think Trey just needs a few solid months in detox...
Guest Low Roller
I hope it's an all-acoustic set. That will totally endear him to the fans.

AdamH
I'm missing something...what's the problem with this?
Esau
why is this a bad thing? I've been wondering that also. I figured its was a good idea given how so many fans are "boycotting" Trey & not buying tickets,it seems an opening slot would maybe recruit some new folks who may appreciate what he does now-a-days..I admit I havent cared for much of the 70 Volt stuff I have heard but I still have always dug Trey's solo work (thanks Brendan) but jesus..what will make em happy..oh wait..Phish..then trey will be the hero again. Sad & says volumes about the fanbse unfortunately. ps.Hey Cully..remember bro..I was never a Trey hater..just a phan basher.

phorbesie
quote from trey (re:breakup) pretty funny...TA: But is it art? I'm just going to throw this out there: the Stones are great-- but they don't move me. I've seen them, and I don't care anymore. Personally, Mick Jagger is not my role model for what I want to be. He looks to me like a guy clinging to his yout, and I am not going to do that. I won't say that about Keith Richards though-- he's still the coolest guy on the planet! MarcO
Trey will say just about anything. Seriously. I don't even mean that as a dis but he's just so blatantly contradictory the past few years.

Freeker
Whoa there pal don't lump me in there with Del. I love lots of great music...you're just mad cause I shit on your TSOOL parade. As for Trey, it just seems like he's bouncing all over the place and spiraling out of control. He didn't want to be a nostalgia act, broke up the band because of it...Now he's in the opening slot for the biggest nostalgia act of all time. What do you want Trey, what do you need? dJEd
"sucks"trey just wants to have fun and play music. i wouldn't mind seeing 70VP{ even if what i've heard isn't super hot. maybe next year they'll play originals instead of TAB and Phish covers. BOOOOOOO!i wouldn't go see the stones if it was a free concert in my backyared put on especially for me. they should have quit 30 yrs ago. why wouod i want to see a bunch of has-beens screwing up the songs they've been playing since the dawn of time?
