Jimi Hendrix – People Hell And Angels

This is the upcoming album of previously unreleased material by Jimi Hendrix titled “People, Hell & Angels†which is scheduled to be released in stores on March 5, 2013.

Description: “People, Hell & Angels†is a new album of twelve never before released Jimi Hendrix studio recordings. This special album showcases the legendary guitarist working outside of the original Jimi Hendrix Experience trio. Beginning in 1968, Jimi Hendrix grew restless, eager to develop new material with old friends and new ensembles. Outside the view of a massive audience that had established the Experience as rock’s largest grossing concert act and simultaneously placed two of his albums together in the US Top 10 sales chart, Jimi was busy working behind the scenes to craft his next musical statement.

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (2011 Remaster)

Wish You Were Here is a song cycle dedicated to Pink Floyd’s original frontman, Syd Barrett, who’d flamed out years before: two grimly funny songs about the evils of the music business (“By the way, which one’s Pink?â€), and two long, touching ones about the band’s vanished friend. The real star of the show, though, is the production: sparkling, convoluted, designed to sound deeply oh-wow under the influence—and pretty great sober too—with David Gilmour getting lots of space for his most lyrical guitar playing ever. And, though the album is big and ambitious, even bombastic, it somehow dodges being pretentious—the Barrett tributes are honest and heartfelt, beneath all the grand gestures and stereophonic trickery. —Douglas Wolk

Dub Side Of The Moon - Easy Star All-Stars

It was one of those really stupid ideas that we can all be grateful someone had the guts to follow through with. Yes, it’s a reggae version of the Pink Floyd classic Dark Side of the Moon, every track drastically reworked and presented in the same order as on the original album. And yes, it works far, far better than you’d have any right to expect. The artists vary from the relatively obscure (Kirsty Rock, Dollarman) to the big-time (Corey Harris, Frankie Paul, the Meditations) and the musical styles range from roots to dancehall to jungle. Every track works well, but highlights include a very fine (and uncredited) jungle mix of “On the Run†and the great singer-deejay combo track “Time,†on which Corey Harris’ chesty baritone singing voice is nicely counterbalanced by Ranking Joe’s speed-rap. There are several bonus dub mixes tacked onto the end of the program, and while none of them is revelatory they don’t detract from the proceedings, either. At the end you realize that you were wrong to even think this was a dumb idea to begin with — dub’s psychedelic mysticism is a perfectly good match for Pink Floyd’s mannered weirdness. Highly recommended. - Rick Anderson

Easy Star All-Stars - Dubber Side Of The Moon

A highly desirable set of beatmakers and dub masters are handling the remixes here, but the reasonDubber Side of the Moon works so well could very well be the seven years that have passed since the source material was released. Everyone from dub legend Mad Professor to dubstep upstart Kalbata digs deep into these tracks, as if they picked up the Easy Star All-Stars’ original Pink Floyd tribute, Dub Side of the Moon, back in 2003 and have kept it in the play stack ever since. Dubmatrix might have even gone to see the group live as his opening mix uplifts with the horns and then chills with the bass, reflecting the on-stage sound of Easy Star. Fans of avant-dub will appreciate Adrian Sherwood and his funhouse mirror mix of “Brain Damage,†which recalls the madness of his label On-U Sound during its golden age.The Alchemist turns “Money†into a dubstepping monster while Dreadzone show admirable restraint, giving “Us and Them†a proper touch of wistfulness in a mix that seems to drift in space. Best in show goes to Border Crossing’s “Step It Pon the Rastaman Scene†which is “Any Colour You Like†dubbed into a wobbly nightmare. - David Jeffries
