Their new album is "lets build a fire"

It's prettie "indie", imagine Radiohead meets the slip, with a touch of melogic break beat.

You can check out a few tracks on their site + / -

The hook in "one day you'll be there" got me.

They're playin the 29th @ sneaky dee's (toronto, on) w/ the changes and the sharp tongues 19+

Man.. I love music

Hey would you look at that 100 posts and its only taken four and a half years... Does that make me a lurker?

Nigel Kennedy, Blue Note Sessions

B000FVR5DY.01._SS400_SCLZZZZZZZ_V38812450_.jpg

I guess the deal is that this guy is one of the world's top classical violinists, and he likes to make classical snobs upset by wearing a Mohawk and playing the occasional jazz gig. Here he plays electric violin and performs some originals and some Blue Note classics, accompanied by some heavy-hitters like Ron Carter and Jack DeJohnette. Not bad at all, but I'm not blown away yet, either.

I'm just finishing listening to Donavon Frankenreiter Band 2006-11-14, in prep for his/their opening up for Gov't Mule on Dec. 1.

It's not bad, pretty straight soul/blues/rock. Donavon has a pretty "smooth" voice, without much in the way of "pushed" vocal tones. The keyboards, drums, and lead guitar are competent, but not outstanding. In general, the music is pretty palatable, and fairly mainstream. After listening to it, I'm interested, but not especially excited, to see him/them open for Gov't Mule.

Aloha,

Brad
