The rumour on The Team during our drive in this morning had Modano signing with the Bruins as early as today. There are also signs that both Thorton and Samsonov could be traded. "These guys are restricted free agents," GM MikeO'Connell said of Samsonov and Thornton. "We've made our qualifying offers to them. If worse comes to worse, and they play on a one-year contract, we'll go that way."

Montreal may be out of the running for Adrian Aucoin now, since his price tag will be set around 4-mill per season over 4 years but are still looking at Mathieu Dandenault and Prusek as the back-up to Theo.

Brain Burke has this to say in Anaheim:

"I think we will have cap room to get into the market," Burke said. "I don't intend to invest in the market (today). I think there will be some people rushing to the cash register, but I think I'll let things settle until maybe Tuesday or Wednesday. We're all new at this."

That's all I have found this morning. There is no new word in Ottawa and the Leafs still suck.

TSN is reporting the Modano-Bruins rumour as well. Modano previously indicated he'd love to play with Brett Hull (again) in Phoenix.
