So far today it has been announced that Matthieu Schneider has resigned with the Red Wings, and that two former Habs, Pierre Turgeon and Patrice Brisebois, have signed with the Colorado Avalanche.

edit: well I guess that really is yesterday's news, but it was late in the day, and neither have been mentioned on the board so far.

Here are some rumours:

1 - Unrestricted free agent goaltender Martin Prusek has agreed to terms on a contract, but where he will end up remains a mystery. I sure hope its the Habs. They need a backup.

2 - Speculation yesterday in Nashville yesterday suggested the Predators have interested in unrestricted free agent Eric Lindros.

3 - Norris Trophy winner Scott Niedermayer is expected to choose where he plans on playing next season as early as today. He confirmed that the Devils, Anaheim and San Jose were among them. A source said the fourth team was Boston.

4 - Jeremy Roenick, the veteran NHL center who is rarely at a loss for words, may be heading west, as the Kings are in discussions to acquire him from the Philadelphia Flyers.

5 - The Hawks appear to have a good chance, however, at signing Nikolai Khabibulin, with the Detroit Red Wings and Phoenix Coyotes also in the mix if the Russian goaltender decides to leave the Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning.

6 - Even with 10 restricted free agents to sign, including Roberto Luongo and Olli Jokinen, Keenan has some wiggle room left in his budget. Among the attractive forwards still on the board late Wednesday were Peter Forsberg, Alexander Mogilny, Zigmund Palffy, John LeClair, Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne.

7 - The Leafs have still done nothing and plan to miss the playoffs for the rest of the decade due to poor management and players unwilling to sign with them.

Another deal that looks good for Canadian teams - the Oilers acquire Mike Peca from NYI in exchnage for Mike York.

There's never been a day like this for free agency for Canadian teams... Iginla, Naslund, Pronger and Kovalev sign north of the border!

Well according to your rules, no one is allowed to cheer for any other team than the one they first liked as a child - no matter how the team has changed or if you like any of the players playing there any given year - so sure, I hope you enjoy watching me cheer for exciting hockey.

The Flames get one: Jordan Leopold. I have no idea who he is, or why he is worth over a mil a year, but his name makes me chuckle.

Sounds like a terrible porno name.

The Chicago Blackhawks have signed unrestricted free agent winger Martin Lapointe.

Lapointe, 31, agreed to a 3-year deal worth $7.2 million.

Lapointe signed a montster deal with the Boston Bruins in 2001, but never lived up to lofty expectations, scoring 40 goals and 43 assists in 205 games.

In his career, Lapointe has 148 goals, 165 assists and 313 points in 757 games.

He played his first seven NHL seasons in Detroit, winning two Stanley Cups with the Red Wings.

The most coveted defenceman in the free agent market finally found a home on Thursday, as veteran blueliner and 2004 Norris Trophy winner Scott Niedermayer has signed with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. The deal for four years at $6.725 million per season, while brother and new teammate Rob signed a four year contract at $2 million per season.
