PRAGUE, Czech Republic -- Former NHL goaltender Roman Turek signed a contract with HC Ceske Budejovice on Thursday.

Club president Jaroslav David said Turek signed a contract with HC Ceske Budejovice for the two next seasons. The Czech canceled his contract with the Calgary Flames in April.

Turek played for the club before his eight seasons in the NHL and during the NHL lockout last season.

After enjoying success early in his career, Roman Turek apparently could not deal with the lack thereof in recent years.

The Calgary Flames on Wednesday announced the retirement from the NHL of Turek, who won a Stanley Cup with Dallas in 1999 and posted a career year one season later with St. Louis.

The 35-year-old Turek, who spent parts of eight seasons in the NHL, will continue his playing career in his native Czech Republic.
