Come on people

I am not going to single anyone out, they know who they are, but what I read on here was ReadIcculus............

I fully supported BB's decision to delete the posts he emptied on the jamhub, and said individual came here, and tried the same game.

That is NOT censorship, its common sense. There is absolutely no need for racist slurs.

What always amazes me is that people take the bait from said individuals EVERY time! I find this incomprehensible. It baffles me. There is nothing more annoying to an instigator than having your worm sit at the end of the line in a pool full of fishies without anyone taking a bite. Try it some time folks.

Basher, I agree but it is too easy to take bait when all you have to do is

a. Get angry

b. hit REPLY

c. type some nasty sentance before you calm down or forget what you were about to say

d. click submit

This what I do, and encourage everyone to do the same.

a. roll eyes [Roll Eyes]

b. move on

Sometimes you really do have to count to 10 or to 30. Just until that feeling of anger (if you get angry) passes.

Idiotic posts are one thing, but really dirty nasty posts are not part of this scene and aren't welcome.

They'll get moved to an inaccessible forum until a case can be made and we send our enforcers over to the poster's house. IP addresses can give you lots of info [Wink]

PUUULEEEAASSEEEEE.....

I think it takes a pretty unstable person to allow an annonomous moron to make you "angry", regardless of what he said, racial or whatever. IMO last night was the most entertaining evening on this board...I sure got a laugh.

Plus, I'm sure the ignore fuction on this site works just fine. If you are easily angered by annonomous verbal diarhia, put said moron on your ignore list and you need fret no more.

FFS...a little controversy and half the board goes mental. Pipe down campers, or it's a paddlin'....don't make me break out the whip!!! [Wink][Wink][Eek!][Eek!][Eek!]

I agree. Last night was like a train wreck. While grossly inapropriate at times, I had to keep refreshing to see what was gonna be next. It was kinda funny... Like I said I've never seen traffic like that late on a weekday night before.

Anyhow I hope no one was overly offended by what went on. Just some joker trying to get a rise of out everyone, gotta take it with a grain of salt. No doubt though that the messages should be deleted and the Frumpy one deleted.

Have to come to the defence of some of those posts. I don't think anyone was condoning homophobia. But you really have to ask where the line gets drawn. Its something that should be thought about, not just acted on with lynchmod mentality.

Who decides what I can and can't say? Be it here or anywhere?

A good recent example from our Supreme Court, R. v. Sharpe, the child porn guy. I am dead set against child porn. Its horrible. But should this guy go to jail for doing nothing other then writing his own child pornography stories for his own personal enjoyment? Of course not... its a slippery slope from there to not being able to express political opinions in a so-called democratic state (thinking of the Moore' oscars' thing etc. etc.)

I think Kung was just trying to use what happened as a stepping stone for a thoughtful discussion about the slippery slope etc. And I would have to agree with him that our community does not do enough thinking.

The beauty of a discussion about such things on a board like this is that we are all friends, and no one has to be right, as long as we all take the time to look at things from another angle and expand our own consciousness instead of the alternatives...

Just my piece for the pie

I don't meen to be nit picky. But it is 100 per cent censorship. I think what you mean is that it is justified censorship, and like I said in my previous post, that was the essence of the discussion: What justifies censorship?

Interesting stuff, IMHO

I've made the mistake of posting things that i originally did not want to branch out into a discussion. I think that once you post something on here, regardless of what you're actually trying to say, you're going to get a spectrum of opinions. That's the purpose of the board. If people choose to reply to some moron, (like I and others did) then good for them. No one's getting hurt by taking the aforementioned bait. I know my bedtime was later last night because i wanted to see what was going to be said next.

It depends on where the "anywhere" is.

If I'm the publisher of a particular forum, then I do. That's not censorship, it's editorial control. Ensuring freedom of speech really boils down to making sure the government can't restrict what you say; it in no way prevents private partites from restricting what you can or can't say on their forums.

Things get a bit dicy when it's the government that's running a particular publishing forum, such as public broadcasting (e.g., the CBC, as opposed to PBS in the U.S.A., which isn't run by the gov't). It's important in such cases to make sure that editorial control rests with as independent (of the gov't) a party as possible.

Aloha,

Brad
