Esau
Man,terrible news once again for the blues community.RIP Clarence, thanks for the music.Think I'll throw on 'The Blues Ain't Nothin' right now.
StoneMtn
Did he used to play those Bluesfest tours with BB King? (You know the ones I mean? Little Feat played at least one? Willie Dixon's guys were always there too.)I think I saw Gatemouth at one or more of those, but I'm not sure.Damn this early-Alzheimer's. Esau
I remeber seeing one of the BB King Blues Fests in Toronto on the revolving stage (pre-ampitheater, 94 maybe?) I recall off the top of my head BB,Little Feat,Dr.John & Pine Tops Perkins.Clarence may have definatley played then.I went with Tim & a couple other buddies. StoneMtn
That's the one. I have the ugliest t-shirt in history from that show (made uglier from about a thousand wears). I checked the back, and no Gatemouth listed, but they didn't list every player's name. I saw a bunch of those shows, though, and I think he made at least one appearance, but I don't know. Jaimoe
I never got the chance to see Gatemouth play. He had a unique voice in the world of blues and he could play a mean fiddle... and guitar. Clarence was booked to headline Kingston's Limestone City Bluesfest last summer, but had to cancel due to his recent lung cancer diagnosis. I was going to attend that show. A truly bad week for the dying music known as blues.
StoneMtn
One thing you can count on...BB and his band will live forever. He only started sitting down while he played his shows circa 1995, and his big fat band has been almost the same lineup for like 60 years. He'll outlive all of us. Jaimoe
I don't know about that Stone. B.B. is clearly declining in health. He uses a wheelchair to get around nowadays. He's blind too. Thank the blues god that his voice and guitar are still near the top of their game.
StoneMtn
He's blind, now???
Jaimoe
He's near blind. He informed the audience at the Toronto show last week that he was blind. He did have two eye operations ( I'm guessing for cataracts ), so let's hope that the blindness is temporary.
Esau
StoneMtn, does the shirt have a cat with sunglasses & a guitar on it? I had one of those (on white though) wasn't too bad but was cheap as hell, worn out by the fall.It also had some performers listed on the back, like yours, not all performers though.8/24/1994 · Ontario Place ForumStill trying to find a complete perfomer list. StoneMtn
That's the shirt. You're politely not mentioning that it's all done in pink and powder blue.I am a walking fashion-plate. That's it. I'm putting that baby on right now.
Esau
haha,I don't remember those colors, perhaps I've blocked it out.It was BB King's Blues Summit · Ontario Place Forum 8/24/1994.

Did the 1994 show also feature Buddy Guy with Junior Wells and Eric Johnson?
Esau
Jaimoe, thats the one.Now that you mention those names I remember these guys.Remembering from the t-shirt we're talking about.Pretty sure the shirt reads:BB King,Little Feat,Dr.John,Pine-Top Perkins,Junior Wells,Buddy Guy,Luthur "Guitar Johnson Jr.,Buddy Guy I don't remember seeing Eric Johnson, but I wouldn't bet against it.I seem to remember that show being the first of BB Kings "blues summit" style show/festival.A;though,I coul;d be completely wrong about that too.. Jaimoe
It wasn't the same show. It was at Ontario Place, probably in 1991 or 1992. Now that I think about it, I was going to Ryerson at the time. Eric Johnson was there for sure. I thought at the time that he didn't fit in with the blues bill. The fans didn't dig him either, including me.
Velvet
Gatemouth Brown played at the Ottawa Bluesfest a few years ago, before they moved to the downtown location. Good show as I recall.
deranger
Man, Eric Johnson is insane. That guy does sh!t on guitar most guitar playing humans couldn't comprehend. I thought his show at Phoenix with his band Alien Love Child was awesome. His ques to the band to change were like the bat of an eyelash, and BAM, they would change. Unbelievable I thought. And not a huge shredder....
Jaimoe
Eric's a great guitarist, but he didn't fit in with the blues bill when I saw him in 1992.
TimmyB
I saw Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown at the Ottawa Bluesfest in the mid-nineties and it was amazing to see such a great bluesman. I only wish I saw him more in the years to come. May you rest in peace Clarence.Tim
