OK, now this is a gig to look forward to. I'm not (yet) familiar with Fertile Ground, but to have Nick Ali play with Mr. Something Something? A stellar horn player on stage with a steller band with its own stellar horn section? I think this, alone, will be worth the price of admission.

Aloha,

Brad

  • 2 weeks later...

I was given a Fertile Ground compilation CD by one of Mr. Something Something's people at their show on Saturday (which was given to her by FG's people, expressly as promo for the Ottawa FG show), and I'm liking it a lot. It sounds like pretty smooth soul (relaxed tempos, swelling horns, deep-sounding vocals), but they back it all up with lyrics that are much more spiritual (and metaphorical) than typical soul music.

Jaydawg, any word on whether they're cool with being recorded?

Aloha,

Brad

I think on the surface they seem like a smooth soul band, however, it is known that they can, and will, rock the dance floor as easy as they can be calm, cool and spiritual. You're hear plenty of Jazz, afrobeat, reggae, funk.....

FG has in their rider, NO taping. However, they are very cool people and that may just be a stern warning. I don't think it would hurt to bring gear and ask them.

I hope some people on here are catching the vibe of greatness that is going to come and go right under their noses. That may sound arrogant but YES, I feel they are that good.

I'll have my gear with me anyway, as I want to tape Mr. Something Something, so if they allow it (Jaydawg said he'd check with them), great, if not, that's cool, and I won't record them.

Brad
