Daniel Lanois, Kevin Breit, Buck 65, Serena Ryder, Delfeayo Marsalis (and many more) together at last!

From CBC:

On February 11th at 6pm at the House of Blues in New Orleans about a dozen of Canada's top musicians will join about a dozen New Orleans players on stage for a benefit concert. The concert will be carried live across Canada on CBC Radio One. The show will be broadcast at 7:05 eastern, 8:05 Atlantic, and 8:35 in Newfoundland on Radio One and 7:05 on Sirius Channel 137.

The event will be hosted by the CBC's own Sook-yin Lee and Jowi Taylor.

When Katrina hit New Orleans, the hearts of many Canadians went out to the people of New Orleans. So many of us have happy memories of the people, the atmosphere, the food and music from this unique corner of America.

Particularly saddened were Canadian musicians. Many have played down there and all have been influenced by the musical tradition of the city.

Now we are hoping to give something back. By broadcasting the event live across Canada we want to let everyone on our side of the border know that the spirit of music in New Orleans still burns bright.

The proceeds from the event will go to the New Orleans Musicians' Clinic and WWOZ Radio.

Included in our lineup is Daniel Lanois, Kevin Breit (formerly of Nora Jones' Handsome Band) Jane Bunnett (Grammy Nominated, Juno Winner) Phil Dwyer (recently completed a project with Branford Marsalis) Guitar aces David Gogo, Jimmy Bowskill, the Mighty Popo and Colin Linden (Grammy Nominated, Juno Award Winner), and horn players Richard Underhill and Paul Neufeld. We're also bringing rising Hip Hop star Buck 65 and vocalists Jully Black and Serena Rider. Finally, from Canada's east Coast we'll be joined by singer/songwriter Lennie Gallant.

We are still recruiting New Orleans musicians but we already have the "Two Johnnys" on board, John Vidacovich on Drums and Johnny Sansone on just about everything else.

Roland Guerin on Bass and Larry Sieberth on Piano. Also Delfeayo Marsalis will be joining us as well as the "Barbeque Swinger" himself Kermit Ruffins. The show will open with the Soul Rebels Brass band.

We're excited about what is going to be a true cross-border, cross-cultural conversation.
