Man...did I miss the convo about this....again....always good for the laugh the Leafs are.

TORONTO -- Maple Leafs rookie Jiri Tlusty has been caught with his pants down.

And the naked images of him leave little to the imagination.

Tlusty, the once-hot Leafs callup, is suddenly the centre of hockey attention after naked photos appeared on the Canadian gossip website isthishappening.com late last week.

The photos were actually shot by Tlusty, according to his lawyer, Jerome R. Morse.

"Mr. Tlusty took these photographs of himself with his camera phone last year," Morse wrote in an letter, e-mailed to Zack Taylor of isthishappening.com. "As such, Mr. Tlusty is the owner of these photographs and any unauthorized publication of these photographs is a violation of his copyright."

Tlusty couldn't be reached for comment yesterday but, in an earlier e-mail response to the website, he wrote: "I feel like s--t right now."

The photos have since been removed from the website after Morse threatened legal action, but they still appear online in other places.

According to a number of sources, Tlusty took numerous photos of himself, posted them on his Facebook website and actually e-mailed a full-frontal nude photo of himself to a woman he met online.

All that happened before he joined the Leafs earlier this season but after he was the first-round draft pick of the team in 2006.

The photos, circulated electronically among friends, wound up on the gossip website.

Czech-born Tlusty is only 19 years old and improving in his ability to speak English. "A mistake was made and it has been dealt with," said Paul Dennis, the Maple Leafs player development coach, who refused to confirm any of the details surrounding Tlusty's indiscretion.

"Everyone in this case has responded in the appropriate fashion (since it happened). The important thing for people in these situations is seeing the silver lining here and growing from it."

The Tlusty story is just the most recent example of youth tripping over technology and celebrity all at the same time. This has happened with people more famous, like Paris Hilton, and less famous, like the Saugeen stripper a few years back at the University of Western Ontario.

Leafs coach Paul Maurice admitted yesterday he was made aware of the Tlusty situation recently and indicated the matter was being dealt with internally by the Toronto club.

"(Jiri's) handled it as well as anyone could handle it under the circumstances," Maurice said. "It's an excellent learning experience for a young man.

"There has to be a new awareness (about new media). When you're in the public eye, you have to guard how you behave. I hope this young man can put this behind him quickly. I hope he has already."

Since posting the original photos, representatives of isthishappening.com website have been interviewed by ET Canada and Much Music and website hits have grown from 50,000 daily, according to Zack Taylor, to more than 100,000.

"I feel bad for the kid," said Taylor. "But he's a professional athlete -- this is what happens."

Taylor called the reaction to the Tlusty photos "insane."

Tlusty's junior coach, Craig Hartsburg, wasn't surprised to hear that a player had been exposed online, but admitted to be stunned that the player was Tlusty.

"This is bizarre," said a shocked Hartsburg. "He's a great kid, a great kid. I never had any issues with him.

"Does it surprise me that something like this happened? No. Does it surprise me that it happened to him? Absolutely."

Messages left for Bobby Orr and Rick Curran, Tlusty's agents, were not returned.

Tlusty, who was in the lineup last night when the Leafs played Montreal Canadiens, became almost an overnight sensation earlier in the season when he scored the first goal of his NHL career off of his butt against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Yesterday, however, it was other body parts people were talking about.

Sean Avery is looking to sue Howard Berger (former blogger from HockeyBuzz, go figure) because he vehemently denies the reports from Howard that were aired on The Team.

I hate everything about the Leafs.

Boohooo Sean Avery. I'll believe him when he wins his case.

When did Howard Berger start working for the Leafs? What does this have to do with the Leafs? Come on, don't you just want to give Howard a big ol' hug?

No ... let's say I could care less about Berger (he's been following the Leafs at home and on the road for years now and must have SOME sort of inside scoop).

Avery has been mentioned by a number of NHL'ers as a classless act. I would tend to believe that there's a good possibility he said something classless. If he's truly being slandered then his case against Berger should be a no-brainer. I'll find it entertaining to see if it even gets anywhere (and that will say a lot about the validity of Avery's claims) :)

More than four decades ago, legendary Conn Smythe quit the Maple Leafs, claiming the team had decided to put "cash ahead of class" by allowing Muhammad Ali, then better known as Cassius Clay, to fight at Maple Leaf Gardens.

Were Smythe around yesterday, the collective misbehaviour of today's Leaf millionaires would undoubtedly have made him throw up.

For starters, you had the team and one of the veterans it counts upon for mature leadership, Darcy Tucker, rapped on the knuckles and fined by the NHL for participating in a truly adolescent scene last Saturday night in the pre-game warm-up with the Rangers.

Try as they might to make it all Sean Avery's fault, the Leafs were, essentially, found equally culpable in the idiotic episode.

Then came a game against the Montreal Canadiens last night, one in which the Leafs blew a pair of one-goal leads and then were left absolutely stunned as Bryan McCabe struck again.

It wasn't an own goal this time, mind you, but a horrific giveaway with less than a minute gone in overtime that allowed Montreal defenceman Mike Komisarek to skate the length of the ice and pot the winning goal in a 4-3 Canadiens victory.

For a mind-blowing $7 million a year in salary, the Leafs own a shell-shocked defenceman who is a nervous, bumbling shadow of his former all-star self.

Finally, to add a layer of ridiculousness to the day, the Leafs were forced to put out a bizarre news release after the game concerning nude photographs of their prize rookie, 19-year-old Jiri Tlusty, that have been posted on the Internet in recent days. Those randy pics followed up on another photo last week that appeared to show Tlusty tonguing another male.

If this was a team that had the kind of real tradition it once had under Smythe, rather than fake "The Passion That Unites Us All" propaganda, you could say the team's famous emblem was soiled on this day.

But then, if this was a team of pride and tradition, Tlusty wouldn't have been in the lineup last night and Leaf ownership wouldn't have been hiding behind a press release.

The youngster would be back in the minors, having disgraced what was once a Canadian institution – a team that once had a member of Parliament in its lineup – with his amateur porn shots. Ownership, meanwhile, would be vowing to make certain such foolishness never reoccurred..

But not the Leafs. Instead of reprimanding the kid, they sic the lawyers on websites that dare to run the pictures, just as the organization once bullied those who accused Gardens workers of foul crimes.

A 22 per cent return on investment can buy you a lot of things, apparently, but just not a soul or a sense of professional pride.

And just think: Ontario's teachers own the majority share.

From a pure hockey point of view, it is the latest horrific misplay by McCabe that matters most.

When he scored last Friday in Buffalo, it seemed vaguely possible that he might have regained his shattered confidence.

But rather than rising to the occasion last night with Pavel Kubina gone indefinitely with a knee injury, McCabe instead threw another grenade into the Leaf season.

The evidence is mounting that he can no longer play in Toronto, that the pressure of his enormous contract and the expectations that went with it have neutralized his considerable skills, leaving him not much help to a organization that has missed the last two sets of NHL playoffs, won just seven of 19 games this season and sold its soul to the devil a long, long time ago.

Exactly! Time to ship him out. His damaged goods and not worth taking up a spot on the bench. I'd rather get the young guys seeing more ice time. If the Leafs are going to lose anyway, why not provide some ice time for the youngsters?

The Leafs are FUCKED ... plain and simple. Time to blow it up real good.

Still don't know why they always go back to the Teachers' Pension Fund being the cause of the problem. Are they actively vetoing plans to better the team/spend money? If they are pulling a 22% return then I sure am glad my wife's pension is invested in MLSE and not a money losing venture

Why would it be a problem to highlight a Canadian boxer in a title match? Sure, boxing is about money and so is hockey ... what's the diff? Maybe there are the "right" number of black hockey players on the Leafs that year in Smythe's mind? The guy sounded a bit like a wanker. Could you imagine getting hockey players to stand statue still during the anthem?

I love this part. The leafs are stuck with him. I just can't see anyone else wanting to take on his salary. It might be different if he put more effort into playing D or putting the puck in the other net.

no-one is saying that they're the cause of the problem. they're just pointing out that teachers (i.e. those in positions of authority who want respect from the children that they teach and their parents) are investing in (i.e. supporting) an organisation that, instead of reprimanding the kid whose gay porn pix are all over the internet, and who, instead of dealing with the issue and getting to the bottom of it, sic the lawyers on those who accused Gardens workers of "foul crimes".

sheesh!

if the teacher's union had invested in the KKK or Haliburton (at a theoretical 22% return) would you still be glad your wife's pension is invested in those and not a money losing venture?

In March 1966, Smythe sold his remaining shares and resigned from the board of directors after a Muhammad Ali boxing match was scheduled for the Gardens. He found Ali's refusal to serve in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War to be offensive and said that by accepting the fight, Gardens owners had "put cash ahead of class."

LOL ... well done! That truly made me laugh.

Touche ... but, I can "live" with the fact that it's in MLSE. They can't win hockey championships, but they also can't lose money.

:D:D
