Coachella 2007 lineup

Man, I want to go back to this festival. Great times, great bands. Fuck the Chili Peppers though. Ug. Maybe Frusciante will play a solo set, or play with Mars Volta? That would be nice.

Can't wait to see the rest of the lineup. This is just the tip of the iceberg, as Coachella has expanded to 3 days this year for the first time.

OK folks, stay calm. CALM LIKE A BOMB that is, because the only rap-rock band we actually remember (somewhat) fondly is back. That's right, as reported by the Los Angeles Times and confirmed by the festival's organizers, Rage Against the Machine will come out of retirement to play the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, taking place April 27-29 at Empire Polo Field in Indio, California.

Rage will headline the festival's final night, April 29, while Björk will headline on Friday, April 27 and the Red Hot Chili Peppers on Saturday, April 28. (Ugh Why do the Red Hot Chili Peppers always have to come around and ruin these sorts of things?)

Other awesome artists confirmed to play Coachella: the Arcade Fire, Interpol, Willie Nelson, the Roots, Manu Chao, the Decemberists, Arctic Monkeys, Sonic Youth, and Air. Other debatably awesome artists confirmed to play Coachella: Crowded House, Tiësto, and Kings of Leon.

And although the festival hasn't officially announced it yet, !!!, LCD Soundsystem, and Lupe Fiasco are also playing Coachella, as we've gathered from previous news stories.

I hope with Rage reforming it'll finally spell the end of the truly awful Audioslave. I don't like Rage either, but at least they were innovative.

The list looks pretty decent so far. I'd like to see Arctic Monkeys, Willie, Crowded House, The Roots and of course, Sonic Youth.

I think dima might have been referring to Bonnaroo's rumoured line-up?

Rage definitely puts on a good show. I saw them once in '99 I believe.

As far as pop music goes, I actually don't mind the Chilli Peppers or Audioslave (not that I'd be making the trip to california to catch them by any stretch...)

Here is an updated "leaked" Bonnaroo list a guy at work passed along to me....

The Black Crowes

TV on the Radio

Girl Talk

Ozomatli

Toots and the Maytals

Tom Waits

Willie Nelson

Umphrey's McGee

Bela Fleck and the Flecktones

Ryan Adams

My Morning Jacket

Arcade Fire

Keller Williams Band

Hot Chip

America

Fountains of Wayne

Modest Mouse

Les Claypool

The Shins

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

The Decemberists

Cat Power

Perpetual Groove

Band of Horses

John Butler Trio

Nickel Creek

The Hold Steady

Earl Scuggs

Charlie Louvin

Man Man

Grizzly Bear

Konono #1

The Slip

Rodrigo y Gabriela

Beirut

M. Ward

Cold War Kids

Looks liek the last one but with a few additions. Most notably the Police. They are the only act that is making me excited here. Although I love Umphrey's and Willie Nelson etc... but there are not enough Djs or bands that improvise to get me to drive all that way and make a commitment and keep me interested. Seems that there is a renewed focus to the indie/alt rok scene.

Official line up comes out Jan.31....we'll see

I hope the Police do indoor concert dates.

if that's legit (does your buddy at work have connections), then I'm pretty happy. lots of awesome music in that lineup.

there are a lot of "indie*" bands doing amazing things that you might like if you remove your blinders.**

* - what a stupid label that everyone uses.

** - then again, maybe you like what you like and don't listen to anything else

I have listened to and do listen to a very wide range of electic music. Everything from Count Basie to the the Damned to Loudun Wainright to Napalm Death.

I have listened to many of the indie/alt rocj bands on thsi bill (if there was a better monikor for this genre I will use it) and it doesn;t grab me at all. It is really the lack of improvisation that turns me off. That and the lack of a deep groove. I also am very off put by obvious triadic harmony unless there is something really interesting rhythmically going on.

So I do listen to many varied types oif music and give it all a chance but modern rock is really mundane these days.

FOR ME. I totally understand other may connect to this genre and love it. That is wonderful for them, but it personally does not engage me on a mental or visceral level. (It may also be noted I that Nirvana never blew me away either...so yes I am not the norm.)

Having said that the line up is getting better, assuming this it is accurate.

back to Coachella for a second, if that's ok...

Pitchfork just updated their story. Wow, what a lineup. This is insane.

Just hours after announcing the initial lineup for the desert rock extravaganza known as the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (taking place April 27-29 at Empire Polo Field in Indio, California), organizers have revealed an explosion of further confirmations. And this is apparently just the "preliminary" lineup!

As previously reported, a reunited Rage Against the Machine will headline the festival's final night, April 29, while Björk will headline on Friday, April 27 and the Red Hot Chili Peppers on Saturday, April 28. The Arcade Fire, Interpol, Willie Nelson, the Roots, Manu Chao, the Decemberists, Arctic Monkeys, Sonic Youth, Air, a reunited Crowded House, Tiësto, and Kings of Leon are also playing.

It'll be a field day for Anglophiles, as a mess of Brit gods have just been added to the tally, including Jarvis Cocker, the Good, the Bad and the Queen, Lily Allen, Happy Mondays, Placebo, Hot Chip, Kaiser Chiefs, Travis, Klaxons, the Fratellis, the Kooks, Amy Winehouse, and the Feeling.

Also exciting: the New Pornographers, Ghostface Killah, Peter Bjorn & John, Junior Boys, Grizzly Bear, Girl Talk, Sparklehorse, Tapes 'n Tapes, the Rapture, DJ Shadow, Konono No. 1, LCD Soundsystem, Black Keys, Blonde Redhead, Peeping Tom, Rufus Wainwright, Explosions in the Sky, !!!, Lupe Fiasco, Stephen Marley feat Damien "Jr. Gong" Marley, Peaches, Jose Gonzales, Regina Spektor, CocoRosie, Cornelius, Pharoahe Monch, Roky Erickson, Soulwax, Tilly and the Wall, Andrew Bird, Gogol Bordello, Justice, MSTRKRFT, the Coup, CSS, Digitalism, Erol Alkan, Spank Rock, Tokyo Police Club, Busdriver, and Brother Ali.

Plus: Faithless, Gotan Project, Paul Van Dyk, Satellite Party, Nickel Creek, Damien Rice, Infected Mushroom, Richie Hawtin, Benny Benassi, Felix Da Housecat, Jack's Mannequin, Julieta Venegas, Ozomatli, Amos Lee, Brazilian Girls, Fountains of Wayne, VNV Nation, Gillian Welch, the Frames, We Are Scientists, Yeva, Avett Brothers, Circa Survive, the Cribs, Evil Nine, Noisettes, Fields, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, DJ Heather, Mike Relm, Silversun Pickups, Nightwatchman, Bojones, Mika, Pop Levi, Anathallo, and Fair to Midland.

Whew!

I do like: the Police, The roots, Willie Nelson, Ryan Adams, Umphrey's, Blacxk Crowes, MMW etc...... but these guys (except the Police) are there regularly and I have seen multiple times. I guess it is the new bands there that don't grab me, perhaps that is the problem.

Either way, I am sure it will be another raging success for Superfly.

i'd like to see Bjork, Peaches, Rage, Manu Chao, Ghostface, Shadow (if he plays old stuff), Explosions, Black Keys, CSS, Brazillian Girls, Silversuns Pickup moved to the Bonnaroo column and then I would make a mess on the keyboard.

Agree with oyu on the Ghostface, Shadow & Rage call.

Ghostface's "Fishscale" & "More Fish" are really good hip-hop albums.

DJ Shadow is always good (if he plays his old stuff) His newest album is brutal though. Very thuggish hip-hop.

The instrumentals are killer though and the Brazillian Girls are a good band too.
