What is with all the reunion tours?

Police, Zeppelin, Van Halen, maybe Pink Floyd(fingers crossed) Phish? I'm sure that are more on the works........these are all LEGENDARY bands but do they still have the chops they still had about 20-30 years ago? (Phish exempted) I know Stu Copeland does! But I mean is the music era of today so weak that we must dig up our old rockstars just to make us feel better? Well for me seeing Zeppelin, Floyd and The Police would make me feel A LOT better. Even with my empty pocket.

Honestly, I wouldn't shell out more than 20 bucks to see any of these bands. (Phish excluded) It used to be that washed up pop acts did the casino circuit in order to beat that dead horse for a few more dollars. Now they play stadium shows for $250 a ticket. And everybody's happy about this?

The thing is, The Police were never washed up, unlike Phish and the still active and irrelevant moe..

If I were in a famous band and twenty or more years passed, I think I would rather enjoy playing again with my old mates...don't you? don't you think it would be more fun than sitting at home telling stories of what you 'used to do'? So, if some of it sucks, so what?...they are probably having the time of their lives...again!

I'd have to think that would be a big part of it. It would, of course, be good to see some evolution in the playing, the chemistry, and all that, at the same time as touching all those old musical bases.

I'm sure that the desire to get back together with old friends and have fun ranks somewhere on the charts but most of these bands (Van Halen, the Police) are notorious for hating each other. So, I don't really buy that.

Maybe The Police did go out at the top of their game, but I really just don't like Sting, or Bono or The Edge or Prince or Madonna or and other one named pretensious prick. Just my own opinion.

It all seems a bit too much Barbera Streisand or American Idol/Supernova and not enough like an actual art form.

Hey Toast, many bands are fueled by love-hate relationships. The love-hate conflicts add to the chemistry, songwriting and performing. These bands all had often bitter and combustable inner termoils and for the most part, buried the hatchet for dubious and good reasons: Cream, Band Of Gypsies, The Kinks, The Who, Oasis, Pink Floyd, The Clash, Van Hagar, Van Halen, The Police (and that was with Sting and Copeland) etc...

I saw the CSNY show this summer and wasnt all that thrilled with it. It would be one thing if they toured and didnt ask an arm and a leg, but they do, and thats the nature of the best. The thing that pissed me off about the CSNY show though, is that they went on an anti-capatalism rant to a sold out crowd at the ACC.
