How do you get over a slump?

i do believe to a degree in the "use the body to cure the mind and the mind to cure the body" line of reasoning– i often walk for 30-35 minutes home from work and i'm sure that if i ever got stressed out from work it would do me wonders

How many (sports) bars are on the route from your office to your home?

Aloha,

Brad

I take my camera and drive around in my car and take pictures.

Or I get together with friends for drinks and/or partying.

Or I stay at home and crank my music and clean my kitchen and/or bathroom and/or bedroom and/or computer room and/or living room.

Sometimes i just organize things... like alphabeticalize my movie collection, cd collection.. organize camping gear, closets, shoes...

Sometimes i plan vacations.. like last night, i planned my 30th bday getaway.

Sometimes i read books or magazines or surf the internets and don't worry about time being wasted... cuz really, time is only an invention and if i'm happy than sobeit.

Sometimes i go and visit my family and talk and hold babies and laugh.

Sometimes i phone all of my friends i haven't been in contact with in awhile and catch up and see what's happening.

Sometimes i paint my toes.

Most of the time i do all of the aforementioned and it keeps me out of unwanted moods.

How about those days when you can't even be bothered to put some music on, or do something to lift your mood? Days like that I usually just mindlessly surf the internet but that only makes me feel worse for having wasted my evening.

This plagues me. At such times, though, it usually means that I've got a hundred-odd assignments that I've been putting off marking. Then, there are also the seasonal downers; I have to be particularly guarded around my moods in February, when all feels darkest. Then there's the matter of depressions for which there are no clear or long-lasting solutions, and the knowing that they're going to eventually come back, no matter what the reprieve. Still working on what to do with that one.

I find doing something, rather than just taking something in, makes all the difference for me. Making music is an especially sacred thing for me. Playing with friends is the most ideal. I also really enjoy getting going with my looper if I must (living in the country being a factor here), and if I take the time to get the basement set up so that I can get both mics and guitar wired through it, I can get something nice and engaging going.

Fair enough. Ultimately, it's a "life does go on" kind of genre, which is precisely its magic.

Exactly. I saw Son Seals twice in concert. The man lost his leg to diabetes and his wife shot him in the face, and yet he wasn't depressed or write songs that made you feel down. That's is the message of blues: Tell a story as a form of therapy.
