The first annual Hamilton Mayday Festival happening from Monday April 23 to Saturday May 5. There is an incredible list of events to take in and the whole festival culminates in a day-long street party on May 5.

The Mayday festival is organized by the Sky Dragon Community Development

Cooperative in partnership with Arts Hamilton, the Hamilton District

Labour Council, The Hamilton Artist's Inc, The Workers Arts and Heritage

Centre, and the Well LGBTQ Wellness Centre.

Festival Sponsors include: Reeves Financial (the Ethical Investors), CUPE

3906, OSSTF Local 21, and the Hamilton Wentworth Elementary Teacher's Local

Mayday; A Festival of Liberation!

Why we want it to happen: A message from the planning committee

We hope the Mayday festival will act as a catalyst for raising awareness

of our commonalities as Hamilton community members and global citizens.

Through the festival events participants will be able to create

progressive spaces where they can dialogue and collectively address our

political, social, economic and environmental concerns. It is our hope

that individuals and organizations who are not normally in contact with

each other will connect and be inspired to embark on new projects of

transformation.

The Festival will also reassert our presence on the streets of Hamilton

and take back the original history of Mayday. The festival will enable us

to connect with the struggles of previous movements and bring awareness to

the struggles of today and the possibilities for progressive change.

Mayday also brings us together to celebrate progressive culture and the

many talents existing in our community. Through the street festival we

will create another world for a day – a place where we can live out the

possibilities normally silenced by classist, racist, militaristic and

patriarchal society. Of course, we also plan on having a damn good

time.... Come join us for the party!
