Another issue for Hockey Night is the quality of the Leafs' team. Insiders suggest there's a concern about the limited success the team is likely to achieve in the next several years. Most hockey experts rank the Leafs as the weakest among the six Canadian NHL teams. The probability of the Leafs making the playoffs any time soon is questionable at best. Hockey Night will seek to showcase Canadian teams with a better chance of advancing to the postseason.

HAHAHHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA

Hughson's improved a lot over the years. I never liked him early in his hockey career but he was/is a good baseball announcer. I like Don Whitman best on the CBC (aside from the departed Cuthbert) and Mark Lee is getting better all the time. Whitman is the CBC's best all-round sports announcer and he terrific with Edmonton and Calgary games.

CBC's Hockey Night in Canada has unveiled a fresh look for the 2007-08 NHL season, including a revamped pre-game show.

Debuting before HNIC's doubleheader on Oct. 6, Scotiabank Hockey Tonight — hosted by Ron MacLean — will bring viewers two new segments.

Inside Hockey will tell the stories of the people and places that shape the game of hockey, while Viewpoint features Scott Morrison with all the latest news and information developing around the league.

In addition, Hockey Tonight Kids — a special promotion launching at CBCSports.ca on Oct. 4 — allows minor hockey teams from across the country to welcome viewers to Hockey Night in Canada. Parents, coaches and children are invited to submit their reasons why their team deserves the honour, with winning teams appearing on the pre-game show throughout the regular season, beginning Nov. 17.

For the first time during the regular season, viewers will be able to watch the CBC game of their choice with live and on-demand online video streaming of all games at CBCSports.ca. Plus, for the first time ever, CBCSports.ca will offer fans daily NHL highlight video clips from around the league.

The ever-popular Coach's Corner with Don Cherry will return in its traditional slot during the first intermission of Game 1 of doubleheaders. Hotstove is back during the second intermission with a new edge, as MacLean is joined by some of hockey's most influential people to break down and debate the game at hand, as well as to discuss other current NHL issues.

Scott Oake and Kelly Hrudey return to host Behind the Mask and After Hours as part of HNIC 's Game 2 coverage. In the second intermission of Game 2, MacLean will host Scoreboard Saturday, keeping fans up-to-date on all of the night's action.

Other highlights of the 55th season of Hockey Night in Canada include:

* The Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings kick off the 2007-08 season from London, England, on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 12 noon ET.

* A special mid-week doubleheader on Thursday, Oct. 4, featuring the Toronto Maple Leafs vs. the Ottawa Senators and the Calgary Flames vs. the Philadelphia Flyers.

* The 2007 Hall of Fame Game on Saturday, Nov. 10.

* The NHL Winter Classic outdoor game from Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo, N.Y., on Jan. 1.
