Or, it's maybe the mentality of people that think they're going to be dead before the troubles hit, so who should care?"Conservatives hate their children" wouldn't make a great slogan, but maybe "conservatives hate their great-great-great-great-grandchildren might.(Not that I want to fall into the conservative/liberal dichotomy trap or anything.)
