$1 Canadian = $1.07 US

Recommended Posts

Crazy eh - my neighbour just came back from Ohio a few days ago and was saying that a few stores he went to were only giving 70-75 cents on the dollar. But you can guarantee when they exchange those loonies they are getting the actual worth. 028ws9.gif

That's outrageous. What is this, 2003? I wonder if any suckers actually take them up on that!

Sheesh .. I now officially make 20% less for every dollar I earn than I did at this time last year. Get your act together, yanks.

I wonder if there would be so much hoopla about this if our unit of currency was not called "dollar".

Europeans didn't raise a fuss when the Euro exceeded the US dollar back in 2002.

Given our much closer proximity to the US and our inferiority complex, I say it would still be just as big a deal.

Um, yeah, I don't think the name of the currency has anything to do with the "hoopla".

The fact that when we travel to the USA our dollar is worth more than 50% more than it was a few yeard ago (70 cents to 110) has more to do with it.

You're right, it is way cheaper to travel in America now. And our economies are very close-knit. I just wanted to use the word "hoopla" in a post.

Good point about the "inferiority complex", which I think is uniquely Canadian. What's the yen worth, less than a cent? I don't think the Japanese have an inferiority complex.

I used to like the fact that I get paid in USD, not it's friggin' depressing. I've actually opened a USD account to keep my pay in, in hopes that I can refrain from spending it 'till the dollar cools down a bit.

That's what I'm doing too. Keep it in USD accounts until this blows over, or invest it in international markets that are currently on sale. Otherwise it is just fucking depressing.

[edit:] ack, that doesn't make much sense to read back .. I used 'it' there twice in the same sentence to refer to two different things. What I was referring to was investing available CAD in foreign markets to offset the decline in USD. Must be Friday or something.

I can't believe how high our dollar has soared. This has been amazing for my parents who bought a place in Arizona when the Canadian dollar was worth 80cents. It is saving them thousands of dollars.

I Love it. I booked our family vacation just as the dollar hit par ... 4 x airfares, 1 x rental house are a wayyyyy better deal.

Even though I booked the airfare really late, the dollar made up for it :)

Now I just have to get a deal on a rental car and some passes to the Disney Parks :P

Replace USD with LSD and read this again.

Early into King George the Second's Presidency; Saddam switched the trading currency of oil from the US Dollar to the EURO

A war war here and a war war there and by the time the money runs out; everybody is wondering who to blame?

Just in time for a Democrat President to step into office in 2008 with a treasury in shambles. Should be a cinch for Republicans to be back in control by 2012.
