Here's hoping Snoop sits in with Primus and sings De Anza Jig. *crosses fingers*

De Anza Jig lyrics

Oh I can still remember

Jenny Hernando

She was my little lovely one

When I was seventeen.

I remember the day that she

Gave me her viriginity

And then she gave it to everyone

In our vicinity.

Oh I can still remember

Julie Tolentino

The dancing Filipino

We used to run around.

Her and Flouncin' Freddy

Were going hot and steady.

Now she runs a dyke bar,

The biggest one in town.

I can still remember my

Old friend Todd Squelati

I watching him snort a

Milkshake right up his nose.

He slurped it up the left side.

Blew it out the right side.

How he ever kept it down,

I will never know.

Of course I still remember

Ol Flouncin' Freddy

We were pumping gas

Down at El Sobrante Shell

His Mustang was his pride n' joy

He liked to dance the cowboy,

Hanging out at Jack In the Box

But eat at Taco Bell.

Primus Sucks!

Bluesfest is shaping up to be ridiculous this year. I wonder if they have ever considered renaming it, just because it's really becoming false advertising to associate the festival with anything 'blues'.

Snoop > Primus > Widespread Panic is just plain fun!

I spoke with one of the founders and board member a few years ago, before it got this nuts, and he told me that they are stuck with the Bluesfest brand. Everyone involved is aware that it isn't a bluesfest, but rather a music festival. Bluesfest is nationally recognized and world renowned. Hence Snoop ;)

I just noticed that, there is a discrepancy between that printed sched and the by-day sched. Sorry for the misdirection. It seems like they don't have it straight. They should leave it like the printed sched., because if so, that Sunday is likely to be "fest highlight night."

  • 4 weeks later...

Only a week to go!

hmmm' date=' anyone know why Dr. John will be sick in a month and a half? He's got shows scheduled right up until then. I did a half-assed search and he's still on the schedule for all the dates I looked into - no mention of sickness. He's also on NPR tomorrow night with The Hold Steady.

I was really looking forward to seeing him again. [/quote']

I was thinking the exact same thing, and you saved me the search to confirm it. I figure he looked at his schedule, called his manager and said, "Cancel that Ottawa gig, I'm not fucking playing there again."

So I got around to emailing Bluesfest

Hi there

I am disappointed that your press release from May 29 stated that Dr. John had to withdraw from Bluesfest due to illness, and that it was 'unavoidable.'

How was it possible to predict that he'd be ill 5 weeks in the future? Also, he has a full slate of dates booked prior to and after Bluesfest, and to the best of my knowledge none of these dates have been cancelled (besides Ottawa and Mt. Tremblant), illness or otherwise. He played live on NPR May 30, one day after your announcement stating his illness. He played in Toronto at their Jazz Festival last Friday. The reason for his withdrawal sounds like a lie to me. Can you comment on this at all?

Then again, after his last visit to Bluesfest perhaps he is just sick of the lawnchairs here.

Cheers, looking forward to July, even with this most unfortunate cancellation.

Hi Alan,

I understand your frustration. I can assure you Bluesfest is only stating the reasons we were given as to why he cancelled.

We have no recourse in gaining assurances that this is actually the reason. We have to assume that he is sick and is planning on taking some time off. In regards to his performances over the last little while, again, I can only tell you what we have been told. We were informed that he was canceling his performance for health reasons.

I hope you enjoy the festival.

Thanks for the reply, I figured you were only allowed to say what he told you. Just disappointing that he wouldn't put a festival such as Bluesfest as a priority and that he (or his management) appear to be dishonest in doing so. Thank you for clarifying though. I guess my heat should be directed at his management and not you!

I will definitely enjoy the festival - good luck this year!

Looks like I'm the asshole.... Quite the response, glad his manager took the time to write it. Hope Mack is ok in the long run. He's still playing a lot of shows these days though.

Thank you for your mail. I take exception to you viewing the cancelation as anything dishonest. MY client has over a 50 year history of touring and has always made shows he has contracted for. In fact I can say that he has never canceled a show to my knowledge during my 20 plus years managing him. One of the main ways of defending or defeating whatever illness that you may have is to schedule treatments well in advance and not wait for a life threatening symptom to pop up. In Dr. John's case he has hepatitis C. A very dangerous and life threatening decease. He is undergoing Interferon treatment that needs to be scheduled, administered and monitored by doctors and specialists. He will need to be in treatment for three or more months before he can find out the results. It is very similar to Chemo Therapy treatments and has some very many bad side effects. I am sure you can see why he needed to cancel shows, well in advance mind you, so that people can get refunds or make a decision to attend the event and not find out the week the show is scheduled to play. It seems to me that given the circumstance people would prefer this method. I have not received many emails like this and have not had to cancel many shows for these reasons so I hope that this answers your questions.

Best regards,

Peter Himberger
