Just the fact that they are control what customers can use the bandwidth that they pay for is never explained. To conclude that 5% of customers (all using P2P) are affecting the entire other 95% from their random measurements is ridiculous.

The youtube users and porn surfers are affecting P2P users just the same. P2P doesn't have any network priority over any other protocols.

It's just such bullshit. They use the facade that they are protecting their customers from rush hour traffic 24/7 and that torrents are the ultimate target. Pfft. People will always find alternate ways around it. Hey, i just discovered RapidShare!!! Damn, better that torrents. Sure, you've got to pay for an account (i gave it a shot for $11 CAN for a month to see) but WOW, what a difference. You pull down stuff via http and you're done! Easy Breezy.

There are sites all over the place running this way now. I have just scratched the surface. Take a look at this ONE for example:

http://www.twistysdownload.com/12.html

BONUS: with the RapidShare account, they don't want you to share it with others, but i can use my username and password at home AND at work :) So, you could actually share the costs of an account with a friend as well.

Services like that are worth it if you can't get the service you want from your own provider. Easynews.com is great for NNTP. Can you find ANYTHING on rapidshare?

bouche, i've just checked around a little bit with RapidShare. It seems that you've just gotta find out where the files are, and sometimes what the passwords are to open up the RAR files. With a few people looking around we could probably find a lot of stuff (and even share a couple of accounts).

Maybe since we no longer have an OINK forum, we could start a new one that could encompass RapidShare, StMusic, Waffles, etc. etc. etc.?

Given that you are demanding transparency from your internet provider, shouldn't you surf in good faith as well?

When downlading:

1. easynews

2. use google to find files in rapidshare and just use free download (though it's faster if you pay)

3. if you absolutely have to, resort to torrents.

this recipe is easy and it doesn't require any bitching whatsoever.

any computer you want. if you use the account from too many different computers in too short a time they will change your password and then all you have to do is use the forget password link and have it reset, just a precaution and usually they take into account distance (i.e. florida one day then japan and then ottawa and they will change the password...). I pay the $13 to get more gigs and 100 days retention which I think is plenty worth it. I've actually been a customer for over a decade now I think ounce I realized what newsgroups had to offer... There is a bit of a learning curve, though, but it's not difficult and you can find any info on google (any info on any topic ever, actually).

PS: Careful where you download stuff. If you download at, say, work and what you're downloading isn't all that legal, well, I guarantee you there's a clause in your contract stating they can check exactly what you do on the internet (to avoid bad PR).
