captainsunshine Posted June 30, 2008 Report Share Posted June 30, 2008 We attended the Vortex Music Fest in Asheville this past weekend, and the highlight for me was most definitely Laura Reed & Deep Pocket. I never heard of them until we moved down here, but found out they've been touring for quite awhile. Laura Reed, the lead singer (also plays a few instruments but not during the show we saw), is from South Africa but then moved to North Carolina when she was younger. This tiny woman has a huge voice! And she's amazingly beautiful and insightful! I loved the band's smooth beats and funky rhythms.. I just wanted to give a heads up on this up and coming band in case anyone has a chance to see them. I believe they're doing a Green Tour with Willie Nelson soon, traveling from Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine in a biodiesel bus..
