Blues legend Mel Brown remains in the intensive care unit at St. Mary's Hospital.

The 69-year-old guitarist and recording artist was admitted to hospital on March 1.

"Keep your prayers and good thoughts coming, Mel has been in the hospital before and he came out," said Rob Deyman, the head of the Kitchener Blues Festival.

For about five years, Brown has needed an oxygen tank because of emphysema.

"I understand it is quite serious, but our prayers are with him and Miss Angel," Deyman said.

For two decades Brown and his wife Miss Angel have been the leaders of Kitchener's burgeoning blues scene.

When Brown was unable to make a show this past Saturday many fans were shocked to learn he was too sick to play.

Brown was also scheduled to open for the Mavis Staples this coming Friday at the Gig Theatre in downtown Kitchener.
