County police have laid their first charge for smoking in a vehicle with children present. The Ontario law took effect early this year. Wellington OPP reported yesterday a police officer investigating a driver just before midnight Saturday on Rockwood's Main Street noted the motorist was puffing on a cigarette with two children in the back of his 2002 Chevy SUV. A Guelph man, 33, is charged with smoking tobacco in a motor vehicle with a person under 16 present, a Highway Traffic Act offence, and driving while his licence is suspended.
