Chron's Disease

since we're now talking on medication, i discovered through experience that each medication that I was prescribe created problems that in turn I was prescribed more meds to treat without any doctor making the connection between them.

heartburn ->Nexium-> cramping, stiffness, diagnoses chrons -> Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug + some other drug -> major major non stop cramping and can't sit still for more than 1/2 hour without going to the washroom.

I dropped that last drug, and the major issues subsided, but I still had symptoms. I went to the NAET session and discovered the allergy to Nexium, Ollie pointed out his prescription to ranitidine and I switched to that with my docs blessing. Dropped the NSAID and modified my diet.

I have a pretty clear idea of what causes heartburn in my diet which I should visit another NAET specialist and see if that can be worked on, or just remove those things from my diet. Booze is one, likely tomatoes, and peppers (all nightshades). wah!

so in conclusion, these problems may be figured out by other logical processes rather than the guides that the doctors follow.

Here are some things that helped me.

  • Track your diet and how you feel for the next couple of days.
  • Find out if a medication that you're taking has alternatives, and start looking at things you've been taking the longest and replace with a better alternative or remove completely
  • Get away from environmental pollutants. Take a vacation (belize is nice and clean), or change your environment for 1 week. Do your symptoms subside? Maybe your work environment has some toxins that are affecting you.

I'm not sure about Chron's, but I'm celiac and for anti-inflammatories I find curcumin (3x day, high dose) and fish oil (liquid instead of capsules so you can get a larger amount of EPA/DHA) work wonders in place of the prescription stuff.

The maker's diet is great, and I eat sort of similarly although with modifications as well. I was doing great until we went on vacation and I couldn't control my diet as strictly as I need to and ended up in hopital. Even being very careful now, I can't get the good times back -- it takes a lot of time to recover. I feel your frustration MOBE. Best.

I haven't done SPCD specifically, but know some people who swear by it. I think Haas and Gottschall got the macro stuff right, but some of the micro stuff wrong. That's really all you need, because the macro stuff is what is going to save your life. But I'm a geek, and obsess on the micro.

Really at the birds eye view, Rubin's diet, Gottschall's diet, most of these diets boil down to avoid gluten, avoid casein, avoid sucrose. Cook your own food, take additives seriously. You can't really go wrong with that.
