Some numbers I threw at Booche earlier, who proceeded to berate me for my gall:

Hamrlik: $5.5M cap hit, one year left.

Buy-out is 2/3 of contract over double remaining length.

Scenario A (leave him):

2010-2011: $5.5M

2011-2012: $0M

Scenario B (buy him out):

2010-2011: $1.84M

2011-2012: $1.84M

Net savings using Scenario B:

2010-2011: $3.66M

2011-2012: -$1.84M

Tomas Plekanec:

Current salary 2009-2010: $2.75M

Expected salary 2010-2011: $5M

-> By buying out Hamrlik, you can pay Plex and still have $1.4M to put towards another player. The impact would only be felt in 2011-2012 where you might need to have a plugger on the fourth line who is making league minimum.

Buy-outs are fucking stupid and shortsighted solutions creating longterm problems. The Habs are so close to the cap as it is, this move would be utterly retarded.

Hammer is dog tired from all the minutes he accumulated while covering for Markovs injury. He played a ton during the first third of the season and need I remind you he is one of the reasons why the Habs didnt fold early, even though everyone expected it, which got them to the playoffs.

Yeah. Someone to take up Hammers roster spot. You gonna find a dman who could fill in for Markov if he got injured for 1.4 million? Let me remind you, Gainey signed MA Bergeron to replace him on the powerplay. How well is that working out right now?

MONTREAL -- After a flag-bearing youngster got “snowed†by Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin before Game 4 at the Bell Centre, the Habs have no plans to have the flag-waving boy stand somewhere else.

That’s the way it should be, said Canadiens forward Mike Cammalleri, who said the club shouldn’t make “concessions†to Ovechkin’s pre-game routine which sees him sprint to the bench and slam on the brakes. He sprayed snow on the youngster, who was standing between the Habs’ gate and that of the Caps’ bench right where Ovechkin likes to make his showy stop.

“Sorry if you’re superstitious, Ovie,†shrugged Cammalleri Sunday.

There are two flag-waving kids on either side of the gate the Habs use to take to the ice and it’s been part of their pre-game routine all season.

So, some little kid will be the first to “set the tone,†for Game 6, holding his ground against the on-rushing superstar.

Uhmmmm WHAT THE FUCK?

PK SUBBAN??

I watched him play for the Bulldogs last night, and boy does he do stupid flashy moves all the time. That's the kind of stuff that will lead to repeated odd man rush against a seasoned team like the Caps.

Does this mean that MAB sits? Can our prayers be finally answered?

Interesting rule: NHL teams can only call up a maximum of four players from their AHL affiliate in the period following the trade deadline until the AHL team is eliminated from the playoffs.

By calling up Subban today, the Habs have used up their last call-up (Maxwell was called up twice in that period).

Multiple reports out of Montreal this morning indicate the Canadiens are bringing up flashy defenceman P.K. Subban for tonight’s do-or-die Game 6, a pretty interesting call given the 20-year-old played just two games in the NHL this season.

Subban’s been skating with the Hamilton Bulldogs in the AHL playoffs, but with Hamilton advancing past the Manitoba Moose this weekend, there’s a small break in their schedule. The fact he had nine points in six first-round games likely didn’t hurt either.

Montreal really misses Jaroslav Spacek right now as he battles a virus -- and with Marc-Andre Bergeron struggling with a league-worst minus-8 in only five games, the Habs are looking out of the box for a solution against the Capitals.

Bergeron’s averaged 20 minutes a game in the series, fourth highest among blueliners, and well above the 15 minutes a game he played during the season. Expect him to either come out of the lineup altogether or for Subban to eat into his minutes in a big way.

A second-rounder in 2007, Subban’s considered the Habs top prospect, and was one of the AHL’s highest-scoring defencemen this year with 53 points in 77 games. He was also plus-46 -- second-best in the league.

And Montreal -- which has allowed 20 goals in five games in this series -- could use some of that magic tonight.

Prediction: No matter what happens with the Canadiens tonight - or afterward, should they beat Washington - Jaroslav Halak will not re-sign there unless Montreal makes an obscene offer.

Eliott Friedman is one of the most annoying people I have ever seen on TV.
