Is it on track to be pushed through in Canada?

12.31.09?

Codex Alimentarius Commission was established in 1963 by World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to develop international food standards to protect consumer health and to facilitate fair trading practices in foods.

Today, there are 181 member governments including Canada. Canada's participation in Codex is coordinated through the Office of the Codex Contact Point for Canada, located in the Food Directorate, Health Products and Food Branch of Health Canada.

Though we've been a member since 1963, there are many guidelines that haven't been systematically implemented across the board yet.

for instance: People can still buy meat that was grown without growth hormones and antibiotics.

Organic Produce is still available to consumers.

We still have the option to take vitamins and herbal supplements - mostly because of them being classed as 'natural health products' instead of food.

Ontario is on the cusp of changing the defined boundaries of "organic compost"; looking to approve the addition of highly toxic "sewage sludge" to the mix, (the dried up leftovers found at the bottom of the tanks at sewage treatment plants ) which could then be sprayed onto crop fields as "organic fertilizer". This convoluted wordplay and resulting toxic food production process is already in use south of the border.

Fuck the Codex- Plant a little garden- build your own compost pile- save your seeds!

Same barrel- different shit. The 'new' shit they want to spray is presently landfilled or incinerated because its too toxic to add to compost. The easing of regulations in this case as it pertains to Ontario is in response to Detroit area landfills no longer accepting this ingredient.
