The Rheostatics Announce Another Horseshoe Marathon

-

The Rheostatics have done a good job of representing Canada over their 23-year career. They’ve performed music inspired by the Group Of Seven artists, written songs about hockey and Saskatchewan and are the only distinguished band we can think of that hails from the Toronto suburb of Etobicoke.

The Rheos started a tradition for themselves a few years back that involved playing Toronto’s Legendary Horseshoe Tavern for almost two weeks straight – an event they’re now calling the Fall Nationals. Last year they played 12 dates consecutively and as compelling as that feat was, the Rheos are upping the ante by playing 13 straight shows in a row beginning November 10 to 22.

Each night promises to present something unique and exciting with a wealth of talent opening for the band as well as joining them on stage. For example, on November 13 about 20 guest vocalists will get a chance to play a game of Kar-Rheo-Oke as each individual guest will get to lead the band in their favourite Rheo song. Andy Maize of The Skydiggers, Jose Contreras of By Divine Right and Mike Bell of Chore are just a few of the performers that will take the stage with the band that night.

The Rheos are also celebrating the release of a DVD called Maple Serum: Rheostatics Live At The Horseshoe, which captured their first marathon at the club and also started the Fall Nationals event.

In addition to their dates at the ‘Shoe, the Rheos are also playing a free in-store performance at Toronto’s Soundscapes on November 8 and will be giving away free passes to some of their gigs.

I'm not sure, but I think Elvis Costello was the first person to do this, back in the mid-'80s. I know a guy who saw the tour, and Elvis was super-strict about the rules - even playing "Radio, Radio" twice, just becase it came up twice.
