M
from chartattack Beck, Bright Eyes And Grandaddy To Pay Tribute To Elliott Smith Today marks exactly a week since Elliott Smith tragically passed away in his Los Angeles apartment. Fans of the 34-year-old musician are still mourning the loss of what many believe to be one of our generations’ musical heroes. People have shared their grief through various memorial services, late night vigils and on message boards. It’s not only fans of the soft-spoken Smith that have been paying their respects, but other artists have cited his importance as well. Some of these musicians are banding together on November 3 for a memorial concert honouring Smith. The show will take place at the Henry Fonda Theater in Los Angeles. Among the contributing artists are Beck, Bright Eyes, Beth Orton, Grandaddy and Radar Brothers, who will all pay tribute to the Portland, OR native by performing their version of songs from Smiths’ back catalogue. A screening of an Elliott Smith documentary directed by Steve Hanft called Strange Parallel will also be shown before the performances. Proceeds from the show will profit the Elliott Smith Foundation For Abused Children and tickets for the all-ages event are available through ticketweb.com for only $20. Moby, E of The Eels and The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne are some of the artists have voiced tributes through various media outlets since Smith’s death. Smith was in the midst of intensive rehearsing and recording for the follow up to 2000’s Figure 8 album. It’s unknown if the music intended for that album will be released posthumously.
