Thanks to Costa Rica I am now desparately addicted to avocado sandwiches and raw yellowfin tuna. And although I have access to both avocados and yellowfin tuna, neither of those ingredients taste as good as they do there.

why herb and spice for avocado? is the source something special? I know the last time I was there on wellington, they had both organic and non-organic varieties, but that was the only distinction.

ottawa fruit and veg market in byward seems to have some good avocados too. Can we grow avocados here in the summer months? I would love to do that!

There is a guy here in Calgary who brings up the nice, HUGE avocados from somewhere South. They are the real deal and HUGE. Not the tiny little Haas variety we are so used to in North Amer.

herb and spice always seems to have good ones...thats it.

not sure if you can grow an avocado tree here....but you can grow it as a house plant. you need 2 plants if you want fruit. but the trees get big...

I've researched this stuff in the past- There are dwarf varieties available by mail, which you can grow here so long as the trees never get frost. You wont get dwarves from sprouted seed, you have to buy them from a grower. (many located in southern U.S.) You wont see much fruit from trees grown in pots as dwarf avocado requires about 64 square feet per tree for healthy production... I keep saying one of these days I'm going to build that greenhouse... the homegrown Ontario mangoes and avocados will have to wait.
