Christopher Guest and Billy Crystal as the two blue collar workers who torture themselves.

Guest: "I was sitting around the house when I took one of those..."

Crystal: "Meat thermometers?"

Guest: "Yeah, that's it. So I took it and I just... *jammed* it in my ear to see how far it would go."

Crystal: "I hate when that happens."

Honourable mentions: Ed Grimley, Sniglets, that animated turtle... god, anything from that dream season...

Oh! And the Jackie Rogers Jr. show... "Asparagus"... "Chocolate babies"

These come to mind immediately:

You're spending the night with me: " Fred Garvin: Male Prostitute "

Eddie Murphy as an undercover white man named Mr. White

Jackie Rodgers' 1 000 000 Jackpot Wad Gameshow.

The Festrunk Brothers ( Dan Ackroyd and Steve Martin Czechoslovakian swingering brothers )- i.e. " Two wild and crazy guys in tight slacks with big bulges ".

Dan Ackroyd as Jimmy Carter and Bill Murray as David Brinkley doing a radio phone-in show. A guy phones up tripping on acid and Jimmy " talks him down ", and suggests that the guy should listen to some music. Carter suggests: " Do you have any Allman Brothers "?

Any skit with Joe Piscopo doing Letterman or Sinatra

Mr. Robinson's Neighbourhood

Buckwheat

That was consistently the most funny year SNL ever had. I've seen every SNL year live, and that special year never dissappointed.

Palace, Freek is right. This thread is awesome.

"Any skit with Joe Piscopo doing Letterman"

Oh man, I just remembered Norm MacDonald doing Letterman, what an effin BLAST! Kevin Spacey as William Hurt was pure genius.........

"Ugh, ya got any gum?" (I said that for YEARS, and it still pops out!)

"What is with you, and this gum?"

Oh yeah, that was Top 5 material.

"Eddie Murphy as an undercover white man named Mr. White"

That is going in my top 5 as well. Thanks Jaimoe, I forgot about that puppy. Jackie Rogers is in there as well!

I loved so many skits with Tom Hanks as a guest, but for the life of me, I can only remember that skit mocking The Price Is Right.

"What will you give me for this VCR, its got Sony guts!"

The thing to remember about Piscopo's Letterman was that Joe did a PERFECT young early 80's Letterman. Norm does a perfect older CBS Dave.

I love Mango and any skit with Chris Kattan and Jimmy Fallon. [Wink]

Actually, one of the great parodies in SNL history was " Who Shot Buckwheat "?

For anyone who had to endure the constant replays and over-analysis of the Regan assisination attempt by Koppel on Nighline, this parody was a welcome relief and as good as comedy gets.

Ackroyd doing a bang-on impersonation of Tom Snyder. It was scary good.

Chevy's Gerald Ford was great parody too.

Rich Hall as a grocery store clerk. He notices the mats that automatically open the front doors. He cuts out two pieces and fits them to the bottom of his shoes. So then everytime he walks by a power-controlled door... it opens.

Martin Short and Harry Shearer as male synchronized swimmers, coached by Christopher Guest.

Billy Crystal and Guest? as baseball players in the negro league. "Smelt night".

Such brilliant work that year! Is this season available on DVD?!

And from a later period...

"You put your weed in there."
