kung
I just had to share this because it so appeals to my mentality. Here's the context from a Pitchfork review (a not particularly good one but Pitchfork's the gold standard) of Soft Canyon's new album I Will Mend Your Wings: quote: Dickson's vocals are either irksomely whiny or in a growl better suited to a fifth-wave jam band than these tight pop melodies. AdamH
I always liked Alvin Toeffler so I hereby vote for a revert back to the Third Wave.
shainhouse
fifth-wave? interesting. As a journalist myself, I would not use that terminology, simply because I have no idea what it means.
Esau
I myself am not a journalist, but I cant figure what it means just as much as the term "jamband"

kung
I agree with your breakdown KevO. But I would protest that we are at least into the dregs of fifth, sixth and even seventh wave shite.
secondtube
yes, but the forth wave is the first wave willing to integrate a new sound into their music, seemingly taking the biggest chances... it has also most likely introduced the 'jamband' genre to the most 'outsiders'

kung
Here's the Soft Canyon review. If you're interested in music journalism pour over that site a bit. The reviews of Broken Social Scene are top drawer as is most everything else. There's news today up about a Ween DVD that is to be filmed at the Chicago shows this weekend.
