I had to look this up:

The line-up, billed as Return to Forever IV, is Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Lenny White, Frank Gambale and that badass mother fucker Jean-Luc Ponty.

Did Phorbesie bring in Ohbijou for that benefit she did for Burma? I know I saw them and enjoyed them and pretty sure it was at Barrymores.

Yeah, some guys at my work are excited about Return to Forever IV...didn't they play the festival last year or the year before, or some of those guys did anyway. I should check them out.

I really need to go downtown this year for Canada Day...I can at least go see some of these bands on the 1st. Just sucks not living downtown on Canada Day...it's nice to go chill somewhere in between activities.

the reunited original version of Return to Forever played jazz fest a few years ago. this version has a different guitarist and has added Jean Luc-Ponty.

not to pleased about Brad Mehldau and Joshua redman playing the same time as RtF. Although, the 7PM BM/JR show should be over in time for the RtF show.

The Bronze pass notes:

Entrance to Studio Series, National Arts Centre Studio – based on availability

does that mean you get in as long as the show doesn't sell out? what are the chances of BM/JR not selling out.

if you have never seen Brad Mehldau, I highly recommend it. Caught him at the Archives Auditorium maybe 5 years ago and at the Confed Park main stage a couple of times. The guy is brilliant.

  • 2 months later...

Folks who like to hear a little jazz during a jazz festival would do well to head to the NAC tonight. Atomic, featuring the madly skilled Paal Nilssen-Love on drums will be playing in the studio at 7pm. These guys are on the free side of things and will get into some fun uncharted sound territory.

And if you are downtown this afternoon drop by the Rideau Centre where Ottawa's very own Megan Jerome will be giving a free concert.

Atomic sounds great- but I've already got my K.D. pre-party in full swing.. Slicked my hair, put on nicely pressed, collared country-style shirt, tucked into some well ironed slacks, with suspenders... eating a steamy bucket of Kraft Dinner and screaming the lyrics to 'Constant Craving' at the top of my lungs..

..I'm sorry, but no one is invited.

Wow, was Soulive awesome last night. Was that five Beatles songs in a row? Come Together, Eleanor Rigby, I Want You, and a few others.

All the players are soooo good, and yeah, that organist's left hand is stoooopidly good.

I have a hard time believing Bradm didn't fall down. I tried to bet bhim #2 that he would, but he couldn't fully comprehend the term "falling down" so we couldn't agree on the parameters of the wager.
