c-towns
So EPL goes from August to January (regular season) but why does it seem that all these guys are playing all year round? I don't get all the leagues and cups and friendly's. Anyone care to break it down for me?
Davey Boy 2.0
it's a bit tricky...it depends on the team you play for and whether your team has qualified for Euorpean tournaments; whether you're playing pre-season friendlies (money making and profile raising games abroad...these are happening right now) and if there are international games going on as well (i.e. playing for your country) but the regular season goes from August to May, usually(May 15th this season). Generally players get a few weeks off in the summer unless there's a World Cup or a European Cup (or the equivalent in other continents) then they play a shedload of games with only maybe a week or two off between a WC and the regular season. that's why they dive a lot
Davey Boy 2.0
but in terms of domestic cups there's the Community Shield - a one-off and the first game of the season and kind of a non-event: it's the winner of the league vs the winner of the FA Cup from the previous season FA Cup: knock-out tournament whereby a minnow often ends up going on a good run (and/or gets favourable draws) then goes to the final against a higher profile club. Includes every professional and semi-pro team in the country, I think. League Cup: a little less encompassing than the FA Cup in that I think it's just the top 2 or 3 divisions that compete. Premiership managers don't value this one very much and often send out bench warmers for these games to give them match experience. Champions' League: round robin then playoff tournament where the top 2-4 club teams in the various european leagues compete. this is the highest grossing tournament since you have the cream of the crops playing each other Europa League: kind of the stunted cousin of the Champions' League: the 5th and 6th place teams can get into this one as well as teams with the least yellow and red cards from the previous season, or the FA Cup winner, etc; (depends on who the league wants to send, to a degree)

Davey Boy 2.0
‘Celtic have confirmed that they have written to their own supporters reminding them of the ‘need to wash’ before attending matches.‘The bizarre intervention comes after fans complained about a smelly fellow supporter.‘Season ticket holders in the main stand at Celtic Park, where the pong has been reported, were sent a letter by officials.‘Celtic’s supporter liaison officer, John Paul Taylor, is understood to have written the letter to the supporters, in which it’s claimed they were told that the excessive BO from the fan was “impacting on the experience” of the match. Celtic declined to reveal the exact wording of the letter.‘Taylor, who is a dedicated point of contact for fans of the Glasgow club, wrote on Twitter: “I can exclusively reveal its genuine, dispatched at the request of incumbents within the locale”’ – Independent.
