The Soul Motivators

The Soul Motivators are a premier funk outfit based in Toronto. A staple of the Canadian funk scene, the Motivators blend 70s funk, modern soul, psychedelic grooves, breakbeats to provide a fresh take on a classic sound. Since the release of their explosive 2015 full-length debut Free to Believe (Do Right Music), The Soul Motivators have tirelessly toured to bring their high-octane live show to the masses.  The Soul Motivators recently released their newest EP Mindblastin', featuring powerhouse frontwoman Shahi Teruko who has been touring with the band for the past two years. They have electrified crowds at Toronto Jazz Festival, The Pan American Games, TEDx. Radio DJs around the world including Craig Charles of BBC Radio 6 have embraced their uniquely Canadian funk sound.

Tush

Powered by Kamilah Apong and Jamie Kidd, Tush is a Toronto-based band that has rapidly gained a reputation as one of the city’s best live dance acts. More grit than glam, their music searches for the rawness, vulnerability, and intimacy of the dancefloor experience. Their acclaimed debut EP do you feel excited? (Do Right Music) deliciously criss-crosses between electro funk, cosmic disco, and house and has been playlisted by DJs from the underground club scenes. Their high-energy live set has captured hearts and minds on some of the best local festival stages such as the Toronto Jazz Festival, Pride Toronto, Beaches Jazz Festival, and Toronto International Film Festival.

Alister Johnson

Alister Johnson’s obsession with discovering and manipulating new and unfamiliar sounds has made him one of the most dynamic producers in the city. His diverse production CV has included the Polaris-nominated future-soul of Zaki Ibrahim, hip-hop fusion group Grand Analog, the soul-jazz sounds of Sacha Williamson, as well as engineering the techno-soul of Dinamo Azari’s album Estranged.  He is also a staple of the Toronto DJ community, producing hip-hop and disco re-edits under his Catalist moniker, and has commanded decks as far afield as Germany, London, and South Africa.

Rogue Tenant

Rogue Tenant is an art rock band from Toronto that started as a vehicle for the songwriting of Patrick Grant (Twist, Skydome Hotel). Their music is a dynamic and rhythm heavy take on the college rock of The Silver Jews and Yo La Tengo, with nods to post rock and late 70s art punk. They have shared the stage over the past two years with the likes of Wreckless Eric, USA Out Of Vietnam, The Goon Sax, Kal Marks, and Media Jeweler.
