Cheaper DVD burners only support one or two of these formats. So if you wanted to 'back-up' a DVD that was burned using a different format you'd be outta luck. It's my understanding that you can buy a DVD burner for around $600 that supports all the recording formats (4 or 6, I can't remember) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The point is, I'm buying a new computer and I'm trying to decide whether to have a DVD-RAM installed in it. Does anybody know if there is a market for this type of thing? Do people want to "backup" their Playstation 2 games or DVD movies that they "might" own? Another thing I'm wondering is if the major rental places put some sort of block on their dvd's that won't allow you to burn them. Anybody got any ideas? Much obliged.
